Hi Brandon,

I wonder if you could confirm (or confirm it's wrong) something I read in the Sonar forum... a user there stated they he'd received an email from CW stating that if he upgraded to the "production suite" now he would qualify for the free X2 upgrade but also for whatever the early adapter freebie is going to be thrown in as well. I'd be upgrading from X1 Expanded but if what he claimed is correct I'm pretty sure I'd go that route and order now. If you don't know for sure no biggie, just thought It'd be worth checking.... Thx

In case Seth from CW pops back in.... Can you answer this? Thx....
Chris,

I can confirm that upgrading now to SONAR X1 Production Suite would get you X2 Producer for free.

We haven't announced any other promos for upgrading to X2 yet other than buy X1, get X2 free (any version, upgrades included). However, check out our webinar on Wednesday the 5th at 2pm EST/ 11am PST for more details. :)

I have Sonar 8.5 Producer and my email from Cakewalk states that after August 31st i can't buy the X1 upgrade for $99 and get X2 for free. After August 31st i have to pay $199 for X2 Upgrade for 8.5 users. This seems to be a bit contradictory to what you're saying. Now that it is September i can't buy X1 and get X2 for free or does this path you mention only apply to those who have X1 and buy Expanded upgrade and thus get X2 for free and not those of us who have 8.5?

After thinking about the improved Low-Latency performance (hopefully significant) and other features and improvements i have become interested in upgrading.
T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

Thanks for the reply... But just in case it wasn't clear what I was talking about, from here -

http://blog.cakewalk.com/sonar-x2-sneak ... e-pricing/

It states "We also have a special offer for early adopters, which we will let you know about once we start taking orders."

I'm just wondering if that would apply to the upgrade situation I described.... Thx

I must add more info that has contributed to my confusion. The email i mentioned in my above post stated i had till August 31st to upgrade to X1 and get X2 for free but this was a latter email. My first email from Cakewalk said the upgrade offer was from August 1st thru October 31st. So my last email said August 31st was the deadline and my first email said October 31st. I would like some clarification. Thanks!

Sorry about the confusion. I know things can get a bit confusing around upgrade time. :)

The 'Buy SONAR X1, Get SONAR X2 Free' promo runs through October 31st, which includes upgrades direct from us and purchases made at retail locations. However, once SONAR X2 ships we won't be selling SONAR X1 upgrades anymore as it will then be the previous/ discontinued version. Therefor, you won't be able to purchase an X1 upgrade through us, although you might be able to find some leftover stock through an online or brick and mortar retailer (which would qualify for the free upgrade).

Perhaps the email you saw was trying ot articulate that? I can look into it and get back to you.

Thanks Seth! Yes several of my latter emails from Cakewalk stated that After August 31st i would need to pay $199 for X2 upgrade comming from version 8.5 (i assume either X1 will no longer be available or that X1 itself will have a price increase to $199 for 8.5 users).

I hope you are correct cause i would like to wait a couple weeks and then buy the X1 upgrade for $99 and get X2 for free. I could not buy before August 31st plus was'nt sure i wanted it for awhile.

Or at least improve the channel routing so that any channel can be sent to any other channel, including feedback loops. As it stands now, there is no way for me to properly use Silent Way without going to another DAW first to calibrate. More and more, I find myself just staying in that other DAW because it does everything I really need.

Seriously, Cakewalk, you have to know that your routing system is severely lacking.
If you prefer Sonar midi handling - you can actually run Reaper as a rewire slave into Sonar for audio stuff.

I tried that and it works - even if my aim was to get midi tracks as well to do staff view things in Sonar. Midi did not work that way over rewire.

I'm not sure if that would help with my Silent Way issues, but I'll investigate. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just for the record, I did go through proper channels and submit a feature request to Cakewalk for improved signal routing a while back... I'm just just ranting into thin air. I know they have their own agenda, but this just strikes me as a glaring deficiency in Sonar. Most other DAWs can work around these issues one way or another, but not Sonar...
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Maybe they did some work to get there - now that they worked on audio engine a bit for X2 as I understand.

Sonar does restrict your routing really hard. They always had problems doing sidechaining etc.

It's never been an open process for FR and Sonar. At least a separate forum as Reaper has. Now it's all the general forum for that. Even though I compliment Brandon, Seth and a couple more to participate more since X1 came.

I'm fairly certain that the August 31st date was set up as an urgent heads up to those using 8.5 and earlier that we'd stop selling X1 upgrades once X2 was announced, and that it would happen not too far off from August 31st, and that once it happened the upgrade path to X2 for $99 from 8.5 and earlier would effectively be closed.

The loophole is that you could still buy an X1 upgrade from a retailer with leftover stock, which certainly happens. Then you'd qualify for the free upgrade to X2, but of course you would have to wait for them to ship you the physical box. If you want the download you have to buy it direct from us, in which case you shouldn't wait too long because X1 upgrades direct through us won't be available forever. ;)

Anyways, I'll try to glean some more detailed info and try to get back to you and the rest of the folks here early next week. There could be a small detail I am missing and I apologize if this has gotten more confusing than it needed to be. :)

Sorry, dude, its late and its Saturday and I might miss a post here or there. :)

I'm not exactly sure if those who get free upgrades to X2 via purchasing X1 will qualify for the 'early adopter deal. I'll have to check and report back when business resumes on Tuesday.

Thanks, really didn't mean to give you a hard time. More just a little off humor. You are up late though.... then again so am I. Thanks for following up on it though.
