Hi,

Currently I don't know how to use the Sequence Manager other then to delete unused Seuence parts.

It would be nice to have the option to Drag & Drop a Sequence from Sequence Manager into the Composer. Currently I have no clue how to get the Sequence from the Manager into the Composer... which is frustrating 'cause now I have to create a deleted Sequence all over again while I can see it setting there in the manager, saying: 'nah-nah nana naaah :P...'

Right-click is your friend.

Right-click a sequence and select "Choose sequence". If you've deleted the sequence from the part, it's the last entry in the menu; otherwise it's fourth up in the Part section of the menu.

I don't have a "Choose sequence" in the RMB menu when I click on a Sequence in the Sequence Manager... I only have "Load Sequence" but choosing that option makes a new window popup "Open MuSequence"... And then I can browse whatever I want but I can't find any Sequences... Where are they located?

I simply want to be able to do this straight from the Sequence Manger and I simply do not have the option to do so, neither do I understand what you mean because I really don't have that option. Am I overlooking something?

I'm using the latest version 64bit btw, 4.4.2.

I'm talking about in composer, right-click on a part. Get out of sequence manager, that's not what it's for :D.

I thought a Sequence Manager is to manage sequences like the name implies...

Anyway, I tried your method but this REPLACES the Sequence I clicked on. That wasn't the idea, but I guess, as a workaround, I can copy a Sequence, and then replace that with the actual Sequence I want. A bit annoying though...

To choose another sequence for a sequence part, you can indeed right-click -> Choose Sequence, or you can select the sequence part and choose another sequence for it in the part property panel at the bottom left of the composer. That's two ways to do the same. In both cases the original sequence is untouched, you only tell the sequence part to play another sequence, a bit like selecting another pattern for it.

I think we misunderstand eachother. Imagine the following situation:

1. Create new track
2. create new Sequence and name it
3. delete that new Sequence
4. Now suddenly you want that Sequence back on the empty track (there's no Sequence to RMB on 'cause the track is empty)... How? OK, CTRL+Z, but what if you've done tons of other things before deciding to get that Sequence back? Then CTRL+Z won't do it...

So to be clear: I'm NOT talking about 'parts' at all. And it seems a bit strange that I first have to create a new seq. and RMB on it before I can actually get that deleted Sequence back...actually...it's not even in the 'Choose Sequence'-list as far as I can see...which is also weird, 'cause I just created a Seq., named it and deleted it.

So, this is where the Sequence Manager should come in handy if you can just Drag 'n Drop it back into the Composer's track.

You have your parts and sequences confused. Parts are containers that sit on tracks. They hold sequences. So you have an empty track. You create a part on it. You decide what you want in the part.

Yes you are. To be precise: You can't directly put a sequence on a track, you always use sequence parts there, and the sequence part plays a sequence. See:

I think in many other hosts you would only have the options to step back with Undo, which is not what you want, so i think it's good the sequence pool is there.

I agree it would be nice to be able to drag-drop directly from the sequence manager to the composer, that's on the MuLab 5 wishlist. (multi-functional browser)
..actually...it's not even in the 'Choose Sequence'-list as far as I can see...which is also weird, 'cause I just created a Seq., named it and deleted it.
If you really delete the sequence itself, you'll have got a "Are you sure?" alert, and that action is not undoable, the sequence is really deleted.
Deleting a sequence part is undoable though.

(extending the undo-redo system to also include such deletes is also one of the challenges for a future version)

Man... I admit this confused me for a moment. I think especially because, when I rename a 'Part' in the Composer, it asks for the SEQUENCE name... so I just saw it as a Sequence and thought that the midi notes could be set as PARTS of that Sequence. But now I understand that what I saw as a Sequence is a Sequence PART, opposed to, say, an automation PART, correct? Now it makes sense. So basically I got this concept the totally wrong way around! What a mindfuck! ;)

Perhaps I sound like a total idiot to you guys here (sorry 'bout that), but I've been using other DAW's on and off and I was used to the Sequence & Pool - concept. Mulab simply works a bit different then one would expect (but adds freedom in the composing).

Also, yesterday, I could slap myself for having created around 100 unique parts in my composition (yes, laugh), while I mostly could have used SHARED parts, which I somehow couldn't get to work at the time (CTRL+SHIFT), but I just retested and it does work and so does copy & paste. Very cool that this indeed creates an Instance (unique copy) so when changing ONE of 'm, they all be adjusted instantly (which = hell when you don't know about it, hehe).

And yes, I read the docs, but as an insomniac I guess a few re-reads and re-testing might be smart in my case.

Thanks for the feedback again, perhaps my topics will also be helping out other new users... I guess that's the way to look at most of my topics so far;)

No probs, glad it's sorted out :)

megalodonnl - yep, the terminology takes a while but getting there is one of the crucial leaps to freedom :).

Do we have shared parts everywhere in MuLab? megalodonnl asked for automation parts in his recent post. (Just for rehashing the confusion ;-) )

I think everything is clear now but perhaps topics like this can be stickies to prevent same questions. Or a FAQ topic. I could start a FAQ topic in which I post my questions but Jo probably wants control over that stuff himself.
Personally, I would have called parts clips or containers to avoid confusion, but then u need another name for MuClips...or perhaps not because the 'Mu' indicates something extra, things that are all part of ML.

+1 rename parts
