I just did some spontaneous "noodling" with a Mutools MUX preset called "HyperNova 01" which uses a replication of the Novachord synth engine in combination with the Multi sample module including multisamples of Virus TI HYpersaw sound:

MUX HyperNova Demo 1

This uses the pure pad sound without external effects. The Piano is a DX Piano from the MUX factory sounds with the additional Dimesnion D Chorus from Empty Room Systems.

If it is Lotuzia, then this track is an ambient piece just using Massive*.

I guess it's yet another thread which has derailed into devs promoting their own products.
I feel kind of bad since I contributed to this too a little...

Post

What the thread lacks is emulation of a different kind, something more peaceful ... some physical modeling: :D

Ah, apologies for being a part of that. Don't want to kill the spirit of the thread.

What this thread has done is made my synth shopping list grow. Damn you all!

Fiddly format though isn't it? What might be cool was a website/forum designed specifically to share synth patches between users? Does such a thing exist already?

Could have a sub-forum for each popular synth, thus not burying them all in one thread. Search function would mean you could find synths (or genres, etc.) you're interested in.

That's very good.

I just made this 12 single Zebra preset Mp3 to show them in this thread. :)

Showing how the Mod Wheel and the Pitch Bender modulating the colors, or the articulation.

But i'm almost afraid to post them here, because i'm not a good
forum fellow anymore for the reason i made a single soundset? :?

Here is my favourite preset ever:
Surge - Blue Pad

And this is my favourite patch from those I've designed, which will be in my next bank, soon to be released:
Synplant - GW Perior

And yes, I love pads!
Interesting.. In both of these pads, the first note (solo) gives quite a different effect than when you added other notes on top. The first sound was drone-like, kind of eastern flavor. The second was almost voice-like. Very nice. Maybe worth exploring in both mono and poly modes, for different effects..

The sound below is a preset using a single note and mod wheel.

I can paste the XML if anyone want it :)
For me, it's a bit harsh on the high end, but I like the "rotation" effect, a bit like a slow Leslie speaker..

There's a free VST out there called 4evar, that has some truly rich yet compressed/distorted sounds. Raunchy and fun. I'll post something from it later, along with Yoshimi, as I've been promising..

I'm getting a malwarebytes "sucessful block" when accessing this page. Can one of the mods check to see if there is a malware instance?

Anyway, you have some nice effects in there. Sometimes it's good to just study what types of effects a synth can make.

Thanks!

Cheers Brian. Yeah, I'm toying with the idea of taking the best sounds from my Massive and Absynth sets and maybe making them into Kontakt format so that they can be used if you don't have the synths. But then you need Kontakt! it never ends...

Great thread by the way. Really useful for hearing what different synths can do.
Neat idea! Of course, instead of moving everything to Kontakt, you could move it to a free VST, maybe one that has a GUI that you particularly like (ie lots of controls, smooth interfacing, etc..)
In fact, I'd like to see the open source community (linux) come up with a synth that can take all kinds of different formats. That would be truly revolutionary for the entire world of virtual instruments. And with open source, anyone able to program (not me, unfortunately) would be able to come up with new GUIs and new capabilities...

My head's spinning..

Have you tried using Firefox? I use it, and I'm not having any problems at all..

One problem with Windows is that it's usually used in admin mode; I don't have that problem in Linux, so I don't get any warnings. (I also don't use any anti-virus.)

Just a thought..

The Malwarebytes thing seems to have to do with Ghostwave Audio's IP address being blocked by Malwarebytes. No reason to think this has anything to do with Ghostwave Audio's site, as the IP is a shared one. Searching for OVH and Malwarebytes will probably lead you to more information if you're interested.
No longer a moderator.

Easiest way is publishing as WAV files which could be used by almost any sampler including hardware.
Anyway in that way you would be very limited in terms of sound design. With Kontakt you have tons of options including scripting.

A problem with free samplers is either that they are discontinued, no longer supported or are limited to Windows only. BAsed on that you could forget evyerything done with SynthEdit or SynthMaker as those could not be used with a Mac.

The only common format since around 30 years was sampling but with a sample it will be hard doing tweaks of the original sound like e.g. changing the Pulsewidth etc.

You mentioned a free synth that could use different formats. How about the Absynth format then. Do you think NI would allow to have the Absynth engine included in a free synth?

Another way would be having a free synth that includes all existing synthesis techniques in a single plugin and is available for all platforms. But which developer would offer such a synth for free?
Not to mention how much time and effort it would need to reprogram sounds of other synth with that one and if they would even sound the same.

One synth close to this could be a modular synth like e.g. Mutools MUX which is also quite cheap but there are many additional modules needed to make it able to do everything. Same about BLOK Modular: http://www.blokmodular.com/
Anyway MUX, VAZ Modular 3 and also BLOK Modular seem to be Windows only (not sure about MUX as the is a MAc version of MuLab) so also no croos platform with those...

I guess that a common format which everyone could use will remain a dream...
