On the Cakewalk site now:
Free DSF Symphonic Strings HD with SONAR X2 Producer purchase
http://cakewalk.com/page.aspx/Free-DSF- ... r-purchase
I guess that is the non-monetary benefit for early adopters. Not much incentive as far as I'm concerned.

I was feeling a bit bad having to pay £79 for upgrade after spending so much on procahnnel modules, expanded version too, but you get the breverb module and console module and Rmix plus all extra workflow stuff, the prochannel modules would probably retail for £59 each so I guess its worth it, even more so with the 1.7GB of strings free Dime pack. Consider it ordered as soon as I canwinds350 wrote:On the Cakewalk site now:

I spent quite a bit of time thinking about the X1 > X2 transition (specifically, X1 Studio to X2 Producer for $199 prior to Sept 1) and decided to wait, based on a lack of hard info about "why X2?"
My temptation for now is to wait for the inevitable price offers as we get round mid-November, and to let the bugs get shaken out.

One user called them to confirm the same thing and the answer is positive. Just read it in CW forum. Wait for a few weeks, end of Sep is not far awayDirkJ wrote:I upgraded from X1 producer to the production suite a few days ago to get the free X2 upgrade, but in the recipt i cant find anything about qualifying for it.

I too saw the posts you mention but also saw 2 more that said it was a definite "no". Not sure which is right....satYatunes wrote:One user called them to confirm the same thing and the answer is positive. Just read it in CW forum. I am regretting the fact that I didn't opt for it on time, this offer is now gone
<edit> I misread the OP... Pretty sure you get the upgrade just maybe not the rapture / stings bonus thing.

I spoke with a sales guy at cakewalk 2 weeks ago before upgrading my X1 Producer Expanded to X1 Production Suite and he assured me that the upgrade qualified for the free X2 upgrade.

I'm totally new to Sonar and held off at the advice of fellow KVR'rs.
Thanks, seems you were right. I would buy this if it got it's stability problems sorted out. I just want the basic one - I'm saving up for Studio One 2 amongst other things, but if I thought it was stable I might buy it when I have the cash.
Let us know your first impressions eh?
cheers.

Looks like there are some intelligent well thought out workflow ideas in the new version. I've been asking for auto track zoom in Samplitude for years. That was one thing I really missed when moving from logic PC. Also smart snap seems interesting along with the smart tool. Anything that avoids changing mouse tools or grid settings is a real bonus.

I should add as a longtime user who is among those who thought that X1 was one of the least stable versions from Cake in at least 10 years, that the latest version is pretty stable now. So for me, I'll be interested to see whether X2 will be a step back or will more or less pick up from where we are now.

"I must say," very impressed by the 1.5 hour long CakeTV video on X2. Narrated tutorials (as opposed to those with no narration) are extremely helpful in appreciating, understanding and applying new features. It doesn't have to be heavily scripted or fancy, but so much useful info...wow! Really, thanks guys.
Oh, and I also "must say"
Actually, for tutorials I prefer not fancy. The ones with the background music that just go too fast, etc...I can barely stand to listen to them because they sound like commercials, and they go too fast and don't get into detail or show the steps.
Really, more like this please...excellent work!
btw, if you want your own copy to watch at your leisure without having to deal with YouTube buffering slowdowns, after watching in HD with IE you'll find a copy in the Temporary Internet Files folder (just do a search for its location then sort by date - the huge mp4 file is the one - copy to desktop and rename).

1 very satisfied long time cakewalk home studio 4 to cakewalk studio 5 to producer 8 to sonar x1 to expanded to every prochannel fx apart from softube mix bundle. X2 takes the piss out of X1 expanded with all the trimmings, does away with the seperation and is all one product, HLS emulation, BREVERB module, R mix and TH overloud with upgrade and all the stability and frustrations sorted such as simple bugs(hopefully). Im waiting to get X2 already for a £79 fee with a free orchestra bundle for dimension pro
