Well, if there are no objections I'd like to go with Vital Mastering. Don't know why, but I was hoping people would make a choice. The list is on the first post. I don't really know of any other ME's we can afford with the $30 pledged so far.

So I was just giving it some time. What I've noticed now is that Mastering is subject, but more than that, it's really only the last 10%. Most of it comes down to mixing so we might not see a huge difference from ME to ME. I think the big differences are just ME's who do it right and those who mess up the track completely.

I don't have a strong rigid idea about this or where it was going, the fun for me is actually doing it, and I thought others would like to have fun too and get tips from each other.

I just hope the mastering engineer could send to you some nice info about what he did, and how he does. So we all can be mastering engineers and quit their jobs soon.

Yeah, we will all be ME's now (lol) Especially since so many got that $30 T-racks bundle (one of the best things I've ever bought for my music btw)

I will email the ones we can afford and see which one is willing to play our game.

But, we might be disappointed, because ME's usually don't do that much when they have a good mix from what I understand as they often don't need to.

If everybody becomes ME, then who's gonna make music? That will be the end of the ME job at the same time. So no music and no ME.

Let's get real, ha ha ha, just kidding.

Cheers,

At last, go with who you can afford and agree on and talk to people like compyfox especially about other months compos as he really has some good ideas and even offered to do us a free master to compare against so you could actually get the two masters as well to see the differences mastering engineers also choose as you said earlier most will sound samey but then there is the ones that will really stand out. Its had a healthy start and interest too, I wanna see it go like one synth challenge but without all the exclusive names you see entering every month with an doors open for anyone, even those who perhaps cant afford to pay or have no money?, perhaps a donations box might be in order? or I am sure some companys would love to get involved in this if only for the publicity and possible customers?, will stay tuned. :)

I sent this message to Vital Mastering:

Hi

My name is Sami. On the KVR.com forum we have a little group working on a "mastering challenge". It's just for fun and we don't take it too seriously , the idea is we all take a shot at mastering a song and then send it to a professional ME to compare our efforts to an expert.

Here is the topic if you want to view it:

I feel it teaches a good lesson, that mastering is about experience, with a room, with your gear, with the music types. We have decided to go with you, but we were hoping you would be willing to give us a quick run-through of what you end up doing with the track. The more detailed the better for us, because we can learn what a real ME would do with our tracks.

It might also be good exposure for your business.

Let me know if you are willing, of course we will pay the normal fee.

Regards

Sami

Were are in business:

Mr Braglia from Vital Mastering replied:

"Sounds like a fun little experiment! I'd be more than happy to share my techniques with you guys. I'd also have a good amount to say about mastering specifically for electronic music, since it differs a bit from mastering more "organic" genres of music."

I will go "donation" collecting now.
