Hi all,
I was doing some sound design in Zebra2 recently, and this little track emerged. Thought it might be interesting to see if people can spot what's "real" and what's not...

Maybe... but I was too busy thinkin' what a shit-hot track it is.Chris Jones wrote:Thought it might be interesting to see if people can spot what's "real" and what's not...
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Chris, nice stuff there -- it reminds me quite a bit of Brendon Small's playing style.
The only sound that stood out as possibly synthetic is the crash cymbal. In a few places the tail seemed to sound a bit synthy. Otherwise I'd say nice work!

Chris Jones sounds familiar......... Hey you're that guy that did the unrealistically realistic Zebra2 orchestra mock up,aren't you ?
I'm not falling for this again, you're way too good.

Hey thanks everyone!

I must investigate this Brendon Small of whom you speak.

I will gladly exchange "those patches don't sound fake" for "that music sounds good".Shabdahbriah wrote:Maybe... but I was too busy thinkin' what a shit-hot track it is.Chris Jones wrote:Thought it might be interesting to see if people can spot what's "real" and what's not...
Yes the cymbals could do with some more movement in them. I thought I might get away with it in a mix, but I suppose not.bmrzycki wrote:Chris, nice stuff there -- it reminds me quite a bit of Brendon Small's playing style.

Don't think that was me - unless you have been to the future, because I was thinking of doing something like that. Either way I'm now curious to hear it...jupiter8 wrote:Chris Jones sounds familiar......... Hey you're that guy that did the unrealistically realistic Zebra2 orchestra mock up,aren't you ?
The guitars are Zebras through amp/cab sims (Poulin LeGion, FreeAmp and the one in Cubase).aaron aardvark wrote:The electric guitar sounds real to me.

You are f**king kidding me??? How did you play this cool palm muted dynamic stuff? With a midi guitar? If you played that with a keyboard or (even worse!) programmed this then I bow down deeply to your skills and give you miles of respect! Either way: This is the first guitar of this kind that I heard that fooled me big time. (Should I meantion that I'm a guitarist and played such stuff?)Chris Jones wrote:The guitars are Zebras through amp/cab sims (Poulin LeGion, FreeAmp and the one in Cubase).aaron aardvark wrote:The electric guitar sounds real to me.

Heheh, well that has instilled some confidence in me.
The mutes are controlled by velocity, played on a keyboard - although I did quantize and edit (my keyboard skills aren't *quite* that polished).

Still Chris, very impressive! I never suspected the guitar sound was Zebra.Chris Jones wrote:Heheh, well that has instilled some confidence in me.The mutes are controlled by velocity, played on a keyboard - although I did quantize and edit (my keyboard skills aren't *quite* that polished).

Sounds great.
I did some guitar thing here as well.

Not as well mixed, and only played in realtime, no automation or external effects at all.

Chris Jones,
I am amazed that is the Zebra; I play guitar also. Do have any Zebra patches from this tune you want to share?
mcnoone,
Your "guitar" sounds more like a synth, but that's OK because it sounds really good! Are the Zebra patches available on that? Free or not free?
Your tune (which I downloaded to keep) reminds me of this classic:
