Dumb question - Rack Synth Replacement

I've been using my FCB1010 with my PK5 pedals and a Roland JV1080 rack synth module to play and change patches etc, while playing bass with my band.

It'd be great to be able to change up sounds and perhaps get some more accurate representations of sounds for certain songs like the Tom Sawyer growl (in the OPX plugin) etc while changing the patches via the FCB1010.

I want to be able to pick a synth and patch and play notes with the PK5s and then hit a switch on the FCB1010 to change patches or a synth and a patch and continue to play notes. I have such a simple setup, but I can't seem to find a software solution - or even get an answer - for such a straightforward task.

Will the Receptor basically behave like my rack synth but be way more flexible in terms of sound choices?

Yes it will, it'll be infinitely more flexible, and the quality of sounds you'll get out of it will dwarf something like a JV1080.

The only issue is that patch changes aren't naturally instant, like a hardware synth module like the JV1080 - if you don't use various tricks, you'll need to wait some seconds for new plugins/samples to load. However the Receptor has various tricks up its sleeve to allow you to pre-load plugins, which effectively makes sound changes instant. You can of course run multiple plugins simultaneously on different channels too.

Absolutely. It very much just behaves like a classic rack module, but way more flexible. Of course you can use external MIDI program change messages to switch presets. As a bass player you also should know that it has a very high quality guitar/bass-hi-z input, so you also can plug in your guitar or bass and use it as a guitar/bass processor (e.g. using IK Multimedia Amplitube or NI Guitar Rig) and use it as synth module at the same time.

Muse also has a series of very informative tutorial videos explaining the device (choose "Introduction to Receptor Video Series"):
