Nice to see 2 synths from U-he in a shortlist of 10. But still, Zebra at 6 and Diva at 8?
Who doesnt know by now that all other synths are crap compared to these? :D
(kidding)

The fact that Massive was number one suggests that the list might have been based on sales data, but they dont say either way. At least not that I saw. If it is based on sales data then its great to see U-he in the list in any spot. But if its about state-of-the-art-ness or who is setting the bar for quality or who is "best" then I just dont understand the list.

Thanks :)

We also have 2 synths in the freeware top ten :clown:

I think the results were based on a reader survey. Seems fair to me.

I think Massive at number one also reflects the Skrillex bass bandwagon that's rolling along at the moment, every other you tube video these days is a skrillex wobble on Massive tutorial. The irony being that he uses FM8.

I'm not badmouthing Massive mind you, I own it, it's good at what it does, just giving my 2p on why the results seem skewed towards what is now quite an old synth that has seen no real updates to speak of barring bugfixes etc

You're such a bunch of Anglo-American racists.
And this magazine is no more than a Limey-Yank conspiracy that only Mac users would buy.

Skrillex interview in Electronic Musician - I seem to recall him saying he uses Massive. Yep, right here: http://beta.musicradar.com/news/tech/in ... its-545529

The bass wobble sounds cool - I'm on another forum populated by mostly over 60 year olds, and I have them talking about that. Many of them are old school analog synth enthusiasts, and they seem to like anything that highlights the actual 'synthiness' (yeah it's a made up word) of synth sounds. Not synths trying to emulate something, but to use sythesizers to make NEW sounds not faking of other instruments. Had to get them interested in it through that pixie-girl violinist video in the ice cave thing, but nonetheless, they picked up on the actual interesting compilation of bleeps and bloops and wobbles as being something cool to listen to.

All I know is that these magazines should be ALL about U-he ALL the time. The top ten list of synths should be Zebra, Diva, Ace, Zebra, Diva, Ace, Zebra, Diva. All the interviews should be with Urs and Howard and occasionally members from the growing army of U-he users/sound designers. All synth, effect and DAW companies should succumb to liscensing U-he filters.
Electronic music should henceforth be refered to in the press as Zebronica.

Is this too much to ask? Whatever happened to objectcive hard-hitting journalism?

(sorry, was that out loud?)

I almost agree with you, but you're forgetting Alchemy. Should be up there somewhere in my opinion. Nothing tops that synth in terms of it's versatility of performance. Every time I design a patch for it, I'm always looking forward to dessert, and the dessert is setting up those XY snapshot pads.

I stand corrected. Main point still stands tho.. TBH I can almost tell a Massive made track just from the sounds... it's quite distinctive especially when used in that particular way. Can't say I'm a fan of it at all, but that's not a criticism, it's just not to my taste. I do wish folk could be a little more original as it seems everyone is sticking a harsh sounding WOB WOB in their tune these days, but that is the nature of the EDM beast, it's all trends. The music I listen to EDM wise is probably just as guilty of it :D

EDIT, I do like a good wobble, but just prefer mine a little more old skool, a bit warmer FM or more subtractive than wave table or harsh nasty FM... meh I'm an old fart now ... WTH do I know ?

Hehe, I just think it reflects reality: NI has become a company that mainly equips DJs with hardware. The hardware is sold by subsidizing the software to run it (Traktor), just like Apple does with their OS for their machines. NI have done quite a few genius moves in the past few years, which in effect makes them less dependent on software sales - hardware has taken over. Thus they could make their software incredibly cheap - which is the main reason everyone has it. I'm quite sure that marketing as such has nothing to do with it - to the contrary, it feels to me like way less marketing for Komplete (or Massive) than prior to Kore and Maschine.

That is basically what I meant by marketing muscle. The ability to sell software so cheap is a kind of marketing.
