Almost a year ago I decided that I wanted to learn how to make iOS apps, so I took on this little project to learn and create something cool. It's basically another drum app for iOS, but with some features from the MPC that were missing from other drum apps. It is most similar to DM-1 at this point. So far it has
- sampler with per pad reverse, trim, interpolation, adsr and filter
- the sampler can also pitch samples like an MPC (16 levels) to create melodies
- send FX (delay and reverb so far...)
- mixer with volume, pan, and 2 sends per pad
- mutes, chokes, whatever you want to call them
- save drum kits (programs), import wavs from iTunes file sharing
- simple multi touch X0X style 16 step pattern sequencer
- adjustable pitch and velocity per step, pitch and velocity data are also saved to the sequencer when you record with 16 levels on
- up to 99 measures per pattern
- save patterns
- adjustable post quantize. this is not the same as swing, it's more like timing correction strength % on JJOS for MPC
- adjustable sample rate and latency to fine tune audio performance (works on all iPads and works on pods / phones 3rd gen and up. Newer iDevices are just way faster though. Turning on lots of FX will bog down the older devices.)
- CoreMIDI! Does MIDI IN & OUT so far
- Universal App!
Obviously there is room for more features, I have some more fx and a song mode in the works, plus it's becoming obvious that I need to implement things like clock sync, audio copy / paste, and sample record. I submitted it to apple and am waiting now! It looks like this:
It will be $0.99 when it comes out.
