Receptor VIP Questions

After Keyboard Magazine emailed out the First Look at the Receptor VIP there have been several threads in several forums that have been discussing the VIP. In looking at the spec sheet at the Muse Web Site, I noticed that the VIP does not support Uniwire (if I am reading it correctly). It says "Uniwire support only for Pro+ and Pro Max". Does this mean that I cannot integrate it into Cubase (or any other DAW) unless I step up to the Pro models? If so, are there any workaround solutions for making this happen? I remember Stephen saying in the video that you could boot the VIP up in old school mixer mode (for those used to the old way) and it would seem logical to me that if it supports the old mode it should also allow you to assign multiple instruments on multiple MIDI channels. I have not owned a Receptor in the past and am only familiar with Uniwire from the tutorial videos at the web site.
I am looking for a way to take my VST's out to gigs and rehearsals in a safe dependable way and can see the VIP delivering. However, when I'm home in my studio, I want it to integrate with my DAW and help take some CPU load off my music PC. I just bought a Kronos recently and as much as I am blown away by the depth of the Kronos, I want that same integration with Cubase as well (and so far with the new Kronos Editor, that's not happening either - but I'm still trying to get it to work). Thanks in advance for a push in the right direction.

Hello Midinut
Thanks for your interest in the VIP. You are correct in your assumptions about it working using the old host. The problem is that there has not been the amount of time we would like to say this is a supported system. We have "kicked the tires" by using Uniwire, but we have not really tested it fully to see what works. So we are not claiming that Uniwire is supported at this time.
The VIP is really best suited to run in the new host. The older Mixer style is really to hold over the users that have gotten used to the Receptor 2 way of programming. If you get a VIP and only use the Mixer style, you would be missing out on the coolest new developments we have made. The VIP has features like Live mode, where you can easily setup a show for on stage performance, and Sound Finder, where all of your sounds can be Tagged for easy organization. On top of all that we have completely redesigned the graphical interface to be much more intuitive.
I think the best way to hook up the VIP to your studio is using a MIDI cable and 2 audio cables. You would setup one track in Cubase to send MIDI to the VIP and another stereo audio track to record the sound coming back from the VIP. This cuts out latency problems that might happen through the ethernet, and works great in our newest host.
Thanks,
Gary

Thanks Gary, that was very helpful. You mentioned stereo audio outs on the VIP, are there any other outs such as SPDF or ADAT where I'm could get more outs than just two? Not a deal breaker, just curious.

Unfortunately there is only the analog out. No digital outs at all. The current Receptor 2+ Pro has these options standard.
Thanks,
