No I don't think it can - or that it should even try. Kontakt has pretty much cornered the market for what it does. It's main focus is more as a sample player than an actual sampler and seems particularly aimed at playing massive multi-GB sound libraries (whether the multitude of samples in some of these libraries is even necessary is another matter).
However, TX16Wx is all about sampling and using sample synthesis to create your own sounds. It actually samples and offers a fairly streamlined engine to manipulate your sounds without all the bloat. There are already plenty of options if somebody is looking for a sound library player - this offers something else (for which DFD is not really required).
I think it's biggest impact will be in the area of cheap/free samplers - Paax, Shortcircuit, Directwave etc. - where, if things carry on the way there are, it will win hands down. A lot of people still use Shortcircuit and have been crying out for it to continue to be developed or go open source but now we have TX16Wx instead!

Once done, and in the PRO version, can i import a loop of 8 kicks (analogish with a little difference in sound), split it up in eights and then play the slicers back in random order?

(The Drop is a quarter of my cpu on my singlecore host so if i could use samples and get a similar effect as this great delivers in the form of kickdrums i could have room for other sounds in my songs :D)

Yes. Pro version will have the wave matrix, which will do what you want. And more.

Just a bump to all that a new beta (b14) download is available from http://www.tx16wx.com.

This is an early release, to get the fix for (at least a few of) the reported crashes out as soon as possible. This fix should address the problems reported when working with sample duplication, mapping and other things, but was in fact due to a mouse wheel handler problem (go figure).

This drop also contains the much wanted update to the sampling tools, adding threshold trigger, bigger VU:s and auto pitch detection and keyboard mapping of new samples.

Cheers

Thank you.
I am very glad to see such a fast rate of updates with a careful listening to user requests

On question abvout sampling : how do you select the sampling rate ? Will it record the audio stream according to the soundcard's rate, the host's rate ?
And if/when you will add FALC support, will it be possible to record in FLAC ?

Sampling is done in host rate, a plugin cannot change this. I will eventually add post-resampling support so you can downsample files as well.
FLAC support will include save capability as well, so yes.

Don't know if it's just me or not but I noticed something odd whilst browsing through a bunch of Soundfonts. Whilst adding SFs, Reaper's RAM meter kept going up and up (as you'd expect) but when I tried to clear them all (tried deleting perormances, bank, individual waves) the RAM stayed the same - like all the samples are still there somewhere, just not visible?

That's the undo buffers. You deleted the samples, and this can be undone, so the actual data is kept until you either:

1.) Clear bank
2.) Delete unused

Both of which will clear the undo queue. You can also turn down the undo queue size in settings if you experience memory bloat.

I've tried all of those but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Reduced undo queue to 5 but still the same result.

There could of course be a memory leak somewhere. I'll investigate.

V'ger wrote:Awesome stuff this sampler, very usable and seems rock solid. Very glad you finally abandoned the hardware retro unintuitiveness of the last one and went 'software'.

Could this in the long run be a rival to Kontakt? With a free and a reasonably priced pay version what's to stop it being on everyone's machine in a year or two, and people making sample sets for it as well as for Kontakt. (or maybe difficult to become a household name when the name is 'TX16Wx' ? :ud: )

Any plans on a sample converter so we could import other stuff as well?
I think both Kontakt and TX16Wx have their purposes.

Kontakt does scripting and is designed for huge elaborate libraries, like Electri6ity and such where a manufacturer has spent months or even years to create. The TX16Wx can't do this, and Kontakt works nicely for this.

TX16Wx is a fantastic bread-n-butter/creative synth that anyone can use easily. It supports sf2 and SFZ import, is priced very well, and has a completely open translation format, and doesn't use C/R or dongles. For the non-developer musician types, this will be great!

Kontakt and TX16Wx would both be great to own, but for possibly different reasons.

I agree completely, and I am SO HAPPY to see this product come out! :tu:

Agreed! I have waited and waited and cried out for something like this to come along! Things will REALLY get interesting, when people start releasing products in this format! In addition, since the format is COMPLETELY OPEN, anyone can write a translator to convert instruments made in TX16Wx to other formats! A TRULY OPEN SYSTEM!!!! :D

I have a question regarding this... Let's say that someone creates an instrument that is sampled in 24-bit 96khz, but I am running my host at 16-bit 44.1khz. Will this be a problem in the current versions? I ask, because you say that you will 'eventually' adding support for post-resampling and downsampling. How are instruments currently going to be kept compatible?
