No I don't think it can - or that it should even try. Kontakt has pretty much cornered the market for what it does. It's main focus is more as a sample player than an actual sampler and seems particularly aimed at playing massive multi-GB sound libraries (whether the multitude of samples in some of these libraries is even necessary is another matter).V'ger wrote: Could this in the long run be a rival to Kontakt?
However, TX16Wx is all about sampling and using sample synthesis to create your own sounds. It actually samples and offers a fairly streamlined engine to manipulate your sounds without all the bloat. There are already plenty of options if somebody is looking for a sound library player - this offers something else (for which DFD is not really required).
I think it's biggest impact will be in the area of cheap/free samplers - Paax, Shortcircuit, Directwave etc. - where, if things carry on the way there are, it will win hands down. A lot of people still use Shortcircuit and have been crying out for it to continue to be developed or go open source but now we have TX16Wx instead!
