Could it perhaps be an idea to end the auctions in stages, for instance half or one third of the auctions on one day, the other on the next day, etc.?

etc all happening within 1 minute time frame

Would be even cooler imo if it was run like a *real* auction and didn't use the ebay method. ie. people keep on bidding until they bow out, no deadline for bids. An appointed auctioneer would call for any final bids then close the auction. Maybe do it on a chat relay or something.
