Fantastic .. I've been testing beta v1 and more than happy to test the new beta.. (very much looking forward to it actually;) i just emailed you to that effect :)

Post

Yeehoo!! Just had a quick try on the new beta.. Latency is noticeably reduced, in fact it's barely an issue anymore! (ok , there's a little tiny bit but depending on what you're doing you may not notice at all!)
There's lots more features too..People are gonna love this I predict :tu:

The latency is a lot better, seems to be even better w/poly than mono modes. Definitely missing a lot of notes though, tried cranking up my volume on the M-Audio soundcard to near clipping, didn't help. Using a Fender mini guitar, cheap pickups.

Shane, Awesome!

RunBeerRun, I think a mini guitar is far from ideal. Probably the difficulty of detecting high frets of a standard guitar would translate to lower frets on a mini guitar. Do you have sensitivity all way up? (in that case we better increase the range in next update). I'd love to get note/chord recordings for that mini guitar to understand whats going on.

No, the mini Fender guitar isn't much of a problem, I have about the same results with my Charvel 475. The sensitivity is all the way up.

RunBeerRun, Ok, seems like we should extend the sensitivity range for your setup. I'll send you a new build within a couple of days with higher sensitivity and so lets see how that goes.

It works pretty well on the Fender mini, mainly G-string and upwards doesn't track hammer ons well, picked notes is fairly decent, but there's still missing notes that were picked.

My interest is with this mini guitar, as my computer space is cramped and that's why I bought it.

I would definitely recommend you make your controls "go to 11". If you think there's a reasonable range, add a little more on either side, just for "that extra push over the cliff". :)

While i'm all for improvements, runbeerrun have you used guitar synths before? I had an old Roland unit for a while and you do have to clean up/alter your playing a bit to get a cleaner tracking.. My normal sloppy blues slurring etc doesn't usually translate well.. Just wondering?

I've had 3 of the Roland units, and have been using every free audio to midi software. Have you also been using the MIDI Guitar vst, as it's different than the other methods.

-oh yeah, the mentioned mini Fender guitar works w/other audio to midi software, I've been using Roland stuff since at least 2000, so there's not much surprise in how to play clean.

Wooohooo, the new version works perfect for me on a strat!

Pitch prediction level 2 is very fast, in fact it sometimes feels almost faster than the attack of the guitar string when tremolo picking. Polyphonic recognition surprisingly accurate.

I've been waiting for something like this for years and thought it wasn't possible. Congrats! :tu: :tu: :tu:

No worries, just checking that side of things.. Unrealistic expectations are out of the equation then ;)

Tried the higher sensitivity version, about the same. On higher string hammer-ons, they really need to be picked hard all the time, never had that problem in any other setup.

I think you can take me off the beta list now, it just doesn't have a good, fun feel for me.

Can I have RunBeerRun's spot on the beta list? I'm getting curious!

aq(AT)admiralquality.com if you're still looking for help. (Yes, I'm technically competition but no plans to make a polyphonic audio to note converter. And if you do a good enough job with it, the niche will already be filled. :) )
