Just to clarify... although Mixbus itself is a 32-bit app, we provide 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Jack. So you can use Mixbus on 64-bit Windows, even if your sound drivers are 64-bit. Lots of customers use it that way (in fact, I do myself).

There's nothing inherently difficult for us in producing a 64-bit version but you need to remember that a 64-bit app can only run 64-bit DLLs. Most VST plugins are still 32-bit so that would limit its usefulness (as well as causing us a lot of grief from disgruntled customers, finding out that their favourite plugins suddenly don't work any more!)

Another important consideration (which often comes as a surprise to people) is that a 64-bit app has few benefits over a 32-bit app - except for the obvious one of being able to access more memory. Contrary to popular belief though, 64-bit apps are generally NOT faster, more reliable or more efficient than their 32-bit counterparts. I own two test machines with broadly similar specs (except that one runs 32-bit Windows 7 and one runs 64-bit Windows 7). Mixbus is very noticeably faster on the 64-bit OS, even though it's a 32-bit app!

I'm sure that Harrison will ask me to produce a 64-bit Windows version when the time is right - but it isn't right just yet.

I agree it's not really an issue yet, for me at least. It will be more of an issue when/if midi and instruments are implemented. Then the limitation on Samplers could be prohibitive.
I miss MindPrint. My TRIO needs a big brother.

Yeah - MIDI is scheduled to appear in Mixbus 3. Although there's no release date as yet, I'm pretty sure that's when we'll consider introducing a 64-bit version. There's no benefit in doing it any earlier and it would harm the more desirable features by diverting resources away from them. Software development is always a juggling act but I think we've got our priorities about right on this one. Rome wasn't built in a day.!

If Rome had been on the Internet that saying probably wouldn't exist. :hihi:

They want it... yesterday. Everything. :)

Rome wasn't built in a day but it burned in one.

Actually, it burned for six. :hihi:

Interestingly, without two Italians (Meucci and Marconi) we probably wouldn't have an internet today. One discovered radio waves and the other invented the telephone (no, it wasn't Alexander Graham Bell).

I was just trying to find a clever connection between them and Rome- but no luck.! Grrrr.... :(

Hi John!
It's great to have you here!
So you are the core developer of the Windows version, right?
You really need to fix the VST plugins support. I mean, when dealing with mono tracks i can't use the plugins i want. This is insane! And some plugins continue to crash Mixbus. Ik Multimedia plugins are useless on Mixbus. Please give us some stability fix updates.
Thank you!

Hi scalawag. Yes, I'm the main developer of the Windows version though oddly enough, I've had very little involvement with the VST stuff. I just took a look through the history log though and it looks like we've had several reports about problems with IK Multimedia plugins, dating as far back as February 2012. We've made repeated offers to liaise with someone from IK Multimedia but they haven't taken up our offers (unless they've contacted someone else at Harrison privately - but if that had happened I'm sure I'd have heard about it).

Note that we don't support VSTi yet on Windows. Could that be the problem? If you're not talking about VSTi plugins, all I can suggest is "keep pestering IK Multimedia". We're willing to investigate the problems if they are.

Re: the mono/stereo issue though.... remember that stereo tracks can replay mono clips as well as stereo clips (allowing you to use 'stereo only' plugins with mono sources). You can make mono recordings (e.g. vocals) onto a mono track and then move the clips to a stereo track for processing. It's not massively fiddly and it does overcome the limitation. Hope that helps.

Hi John.
Yes i'm referring to VST, not instruments. ;)
I've sent a bug report to IK with the contact of Ben Loftis. Don't know what they gonna do about it. Their support is very bad at dealing with what they call "minor" problems.

Just found some more VST plugins crashing the windows version of Mixbus:
MS Visual C++ Runtime Error.
