also when I load up like my EAreckon channel strip vs all the plugins one by one. Even though it uses like no cpu for me to use all the plugins its a smaller load. So I would think simpler helps a little.

not a lot but it does when you have like a big fancy gui with 3d looking everything and a big ass turning tape wheel and you go into something like reaper and turn on and off the gui you see a cpu load drop without. its like how watching HD movies takes a faster computer to do it really well than a old slow one that can just watch normal youtube stuff
Yeah, if you've seen it affect your CPU, then fair enough. I think the UAD ones have options to disable animations; can't remember if the Waves one does...

its really not much of a hit to be noticeable unless its like a 50 tracks and up project. one thing i gotta say though is i love how stable these plugins are. never had a crash with them. when i demoes waves mpx and a few somtimes I would get a crash out of nowhere as soon as I deleted them stable right a way

Paradoxically, this plug should be called : UnReel :o

Cheers !
Professional technicians are assessed by the abilities they possess.
Amateur technicians are assessed by the tools they possess - and the amount of those tools, with an obvious preference to the latest hyped ones.

Waves MPX was super-stable for me, but I'm not Reaper. Or is that what you're saying? Hard to tell.

its a reaper thing I think and I'm to lazy to find my old pro tools disk. I did like the UAD one but I don't use my UAD solo anymore. I would say they are all great plugins but this little guy and roundtone are my go to plugins for tape emulations :D

So what is the difference between Ferox and Reelbus? Also anyone know of a similar inexpensive but great tube/ valve saturator plugin?

Sound and sound shaping options. They are vastly different. And reelbus is kinda must have plugin for anyone looking for serious tape sim..

Ferox was the pre-version of Reelbus, released as a freeware. Then Toneboosters was created by Jeroen Breebaart and he released the Reelbus, which is a kind of definitive version of Ferox but payware. The ferox offers some functions which disappear with the release of Reelbus. Reelbus is a really amazing plug, very cheap but with a lot of character and potential. In that kind of cheap tape emu you can have the "Roundtone" from Sknote or the "Ferricks" from Variety of Sound.
Also check the D16's Redoptor which is a tube saturation emu, no necessarily realistic but full of color and possibilities.

I bought Reelbus months ago cause it was so cheap and because of the all hype I was reading on the forums. So far, I only used it on 1 mix to be honest. I don't find it that good, don't know, sounds like a heavy eq to me, not tape. I find Kramer Master Tape much better for that purpose, tape simulation.

Those spectral (EQ) changes are explained here: http://www.toneboosters.com/reelproject2/

You can adjust this behavior with the "Spectrum" knob, set it to 0 for no spectral changes.

Personally, in an A/B test between ReelBus and KMT, ReelBus sounded much more pleasant to my ears. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose, but I slap ReelBus on the master channel of pretty much every mix I do--even just rough daily bounces of WIP songs. I have yet to hear to a single mix it didn't instantly improve, but again, that's just my taste, so YMMV obviously.

I've been using reelbus in every project from day one. sometimes in the 2-buss, but lot of use in tracks also, both acustic and electronic. A real gem IMHO

I've even started using Reelbus on white noise tests.... it's that good
