I would like to vote on ALL of the entries since I am going to spend time testing them all. Thanks very much and good luck to all the entrants.

Post

Well, i'm voting in a txt file (as i do when voting in OSC or Music Cafe) for plugins.
In the end, i will just narrow all of the best easier and choose my 4 winners for plugins. 5, 4, 2 and 1 points.

And due there are soundware too, at least i will vote for one of them with 3 points.
But let's see in the end.

Have a good day :)

Maybe the voting is rigged, I wouldn't put it past the incumbents and their potsy schemes.

It might make more sense if the voting for soundware was separate from the plugins. I mean that it makes a pretty big difference if some people decide to give their 3 points to their favorite soundware entry and others decide to give 1 point to their favorite soundware entry. And further still, I would like to give points to at least five plugins, as there are more than five very well done plugin entries. A good plugin is not really comparable with good soundware.

Anyways, ALL (although I don't own Reaktor) of the soundware entries seem awesome.

What were the rules (on voting) when the contest was started ?

My understanding is that we can only vote 5 times but total points don't have to add up to 15. I mean we can vote 5 times giving 5 points each time with a total of 25 points, if we want, right? It doesn't have to be 5+4+3+2+1 = 15.

The rules always stated top five, 5 to 1. But I guess I could change it to out-of-five for every entry (as many or a few as you wish to vote for).

That would certainly be more flexible (although the 108 people who have _already_ voted will need to review their votes).

I don't agree with changing rules during the voting. There has been plenty of time to make suggestions during the development. Changes at this point could be applied to the next contest. They shouldn't apply to this one.
This space has been unintentionally left blank.

I agree, but it occurred to me that some of the soundware may get zero votes because people will be more inclined to vote for plug-ins.

Leaving the change for DC13 is probably wise now though.

But that's like saying Microsoft should never apply any updates to Windows 8 until Windows 9 comes out. DC12 has so many entrants this year. Each entrant getting a vote, any kind of vote, from 5 points to 1, seems like a good idea to me now. The next DC Challenge could be in 4 years or longer. If it's a bad idea, then so be it but if it is a good idea to change then why not change? It might actually be beneficial to DC12 now. Why do you think it's a bad idea?

I must say that the usual method is good in theory, but with so many entries and so many good stuff, it will be verrrry hard to choose only 5 entries among all others...

Post

Just a thought, perhaps contradicting what I said earlier in this thread, but if the people who are really interested in soundware, actually give their 5 (or 4 or 3) points to a soundware entry, they will have a bigger say in who wins the soundware category. This might not be a bad thing.

Hi Ben,
I would like to take the opportunity to ask you, why the time you give the developers is only one month? Don't you think, that the results in a period of
three months would be even better?

They had three months August, September and October.

I think the first 100-something voters didn't test throughoutly (sorry to say that) and this is all sympathy points, or from Beta testers.

In my case, I will take my time to test certain tools and then vote on them. Though since I was a beta tester for one of these tools, I still have to think about how I will handle that.

Else, I'm also for independent points per section: FX, Synth, Soundware. Though no points from me for the synths and soundware I'm affraid, even though that g200k synth does look amazing.
