I've been testing the new version extensively and it does what it says on the box...which, as others have already pointed, is nothing short of amazing in and of itself. I'm currently using it with a Lin6 ToneportGX interface which works pretty well but I cannot get my buffers below 128 and latency is still a tad high for my like. I will try it with other interfaces to see if I can get it down to 64.
Not all synths and patches respond well, I've said this before in previous posts. So choose the right ones.
That's a given. It's the same with my Roland GI-20 and various hardware synths. Some synths and patches are simply not a good match for midi guitar.

One thing I've noticed that it does better than the Roland units are slides.
There is, of course, room for improvement but this already a GREAT achievement!!
So far I've mostly been using the standalone. Next I'm going to start using the plugin in an environment like Plouge Bidule.

Totally agree. And there is an interesting point here. Many systems and software I've used such as FretKeys, FrettedSynth, Widi and hex pickup gear relies on pitch bend feature to make slides. Actually they don't trigger a new NOTE ON message. In fact Fretkeys has to be pitch bend adjusted with synth to make slides possible, if you turn this to "0" slides do not occur. Rolang GR Synth has a two option setting. When set to CHROMATIC (good for pianos, mallets and "no modulated instruments") will trigger a new note for the incoming slide note.

GuitarSynth has achieved this very well making slides sound and behave naturally.

I sent an email on Monday(5th) but I haven't heard anything yet? Have you got room for one more? :)

if slides work.. I wonder how microtonal and fretless guitars would work with midi guitar? :o I know a lot of people who are into micro tonal stuff and would just have to buy it if it worked..

EXACTLY! Fine for these types of instruments. The standard mode works fine for modulated sounds...pads, strings, organs....when playing chords. Leads are whole different story. Playing technique has to be adjusted to make up for the
Roland's shortcomings. And what ever happened to OPTICAL converters....things
like the K-Muse Photon seemed promising...John McLaughlin used them...but there's been nothing new along those lines in years.

And that alone makes it worth the price of admission IMHO!

That's a REALLY good point! There are many non-traditional guitarists that
can't use Roland/Axon type systems that could possibly benefit...7 & 8 string
guitars, guitar/bass hybrids, stick/touch guitars. I'm going to try it with
some of my weirdies.....mandoguitar, electric sitar, electric 12, and baritone.

Has anyone tried it with a bass yet? Those low notes are where a lot other systems fail.

I got down to E1 on my Bass. A string 7th fret.

JamOrigin should develop a bass version

Just wanted to let you know version 0.2.3 is running good. Reload of last plugin and preset seems to be working well. Please add a preset browser with load and save .fxb .fxp

Everyone, thanks for all the great feedback!
New testers, please be patient - we havent forgotten about you, but just prefer to send invites when we have a new release.

For Bass support - please see first post. Its comming - just want to make sure guitarists are good first.

memyselfandus and CapnLockheed,

The micro-tuning idea seems a great fit but it would be cool with a proof of concept using some existing tools before we go and reinvent them. Isn't there a micro-tuning plugin available or something that can do midi-to-quater-notes, that you can just chain after MIDI Guitar?

shanecgriffo,

An intelligent harmonizer is another great idea - noted!

Yes, I guess we will go for a "MIDI Guitar project file" approach.

Mmnn....good call JO! I've got a ton of MIDI FX plugins lying about...I'll have to see what I can come up with! :D BTW.....I tried it with a different interface...a Steinberg,(RME), MI4...I was able to get my buffers down to 49. It's tracking faster but, for some reason, it seems to be less accurate with this setup. I've got quite a few other interfaces...I'm going to try them all to see which one MIDIGuitar likes the best...I'm also going to see if a hardware compressor along with various ampsims might help.

This is kind of a small thing to ask? but for the pitch shift can the arrows only increment by one semitone per click? You already have the control\slider for coarse tune steps would be nice?

Anybody had any luck getting a workaround for the midi output in sonar. I have tried the loop midi driver but midi guitar does not output any midi that sonar recognizes. I configured midi guitar as a software synthesizer and check the enable midi output box but after I close the box and reopen it the box was unchecked so for some reason sonar does not allow it to out put midi. I can of course trigger software synthesizers with the midi guitar plug-in hosting the instrument of course. The only problem is that the mIDI note recognition upon playback is different every time at this point so it is not really usable in a recording situation right now so I really want to be able to get the midi notes into sonar somehow.

Any suggestions?

memyselfandus,
I got a few reports about this issue but I cant reproduce it. The pure virtual call is a good hint - I'll get it sorted out.

spinedoc,
I have no idea about Sonar, but for most hosts we found a way to get MIDI in. Another option is to use the standalone and a MIDI loopback drivers such as loopMidi, MidiOx, or LoopBe1. I wonder if we should add a MIDI file export?

That would be quite useful if not too much trouble. :D
