I dunno, I think there's something to the elegance of the program as it is? There are a ton of great discrete plugins that model dirt pedals, probably more for tubescreamers than anything else, and it plays very nicely with incoming signals. Though I of course prefer to run my physical pedals into the digital amp. It takes them just like a real one, and it's really easy to use.
I've had some time to get used to it, going to do a nice write-up on my blog soon once I've got a chance to fully exercise the new reverb module. I feel like it offers sound quality that is competitive with anything, responsiveness that is extremely realistic... It's sort of like Softube but without quite as fancy GUIs and with a bit more going on for your investment (and a lower price tag). It's just got that "easy to use, sounds great, jump right in" thing going for it.
I think... it will probably be my favorite to track alongside Amplitube 3 CS, now. Two programs that do the same job, roughly speaking, but which have dramatically different workflow... But man, it sounds great, and having something that is just super quick and easy to dial in to compliment any of the, friggin, like, a million sounds you can get in Amplitube these days is handy.
I know room is probably going to be the star of the show for ambiance in one go, but personally? I'll be paying a lot of attention in evaluating the spring algorithm since that's a tough one to get right, but so necessary in my opinion for a good amp modeler to be feature complete (to a point). But there is a definite workflow design choice made here, it seems to me, which specifically sets out not to get too complicated but to offer you basically what, say, a nice rack setup would offer. And in my opinion I think it strikes a good balance there. But I'll have more collected thoughts and some clips to back 'em up soon enough.

Dirt Pedal is in the plans and in the tradition of S-Gear it will probably do a whole range of tones from 1 pedal.
I also got confirmation from Mike that the price will go up Jan 01
from $75 to $99.... so if you were planing to pick one up do it before the end of the year.

I was curious so the other day I did a direct comparison with my real TS9-DX (unmodded, alas) and the TS-999, TSE-808, and Guitar Rig's TS. The TS-999 and GR's TS are pretty much perfect save for a slightly more immediate attack, the TSE-808 I wasn't much impressed by. So that's at least two entirely free, nearly perfect Tube Screamer emulations to stick in front of S-Gear. And both of them sound great run into any of the three amps.hibidy wrote:Sweet. But still wishing all this time for a good tube screamer (or insert your model here) for the up front.

TSE-808 is perfectly moddable (DIY page). You can definitely tune it to match yours. I find it the best Tube Screamer emulation there is.

And the TSE X50 is a great sounding amp too...

No auto tune...

as an owner of S-Gear I can say that it's fine the way it is. There's numerous High-Gain sims but S-Gear shines as a clean & crunch analog sounding sim... It sounds like real amps I've played on and/or owned. Just put a TS pedal in front of it if you feel the need but it doesn't need one built-in - it's a work of art just like it is.
Now the proud owner of an avid 11 Rack, Running Pro Tools 10.3.3 - for me it's heaven!

I have been searching for a good clean amp simulation and finally demo'd S-Gear. While all the other paid amp sim packages left me feeling unimpressed, S-Gear did quite the opposite. A few of the freebies were much better than the commercial packages (for me, my set-up, my goals) but S-Gear still had something beyond them and won my vote and is worth the modest price tag. It is a very nice piece of kit and will go a long way to replacing a real amp for those times when I am too lazy to get the mics out or it is not the right time to make noise.
Thank you very much Scuffham Amps team.
