I just tried the demo of Diva and I have to say I am really amazed. I heard about how CPU intensive it was but didn't really believe it. I have a system running Sonar X1 and it's a dedicated DAW (no internet or other junk). My current CPU is a 6 core AMD Phenom II X6 1065T 2.9 Ghz.

I have 8 gb of ram and for the most part it can handle Diva but there are times when I reach the peak. Before I go and purchase Diva I was pondering about upgrading to an AMD FX 8350 8 core CPU (yes I already know it's not as good as the Intel cpus) and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with an 8 core AMD cpu and Diva to see if I'll notice a real significant difference?

If I upgraded my computer I was also going to up my ram to 16 gb , I'm currently at 8 gb. I'm not sure if that will make a difference as well?

I have a delta 66 soundcard running into Omni Studio.

RAM upgrade won't make any difference to Diva since it doesn't use samples. :D

I switched from an AMD 6-core processor back to Intel. It seems from my (and other site) testing the per-core speed of AMDs chips were slower. Switching to an i7 ivy bridge cpu definitely helped Diva. I wouldn't expect the AMD FX 8350 to really help this.

Yep, indeed.

Looks like I'll be switching to an i7! Let's hope for a big tax return this year!

If you can wait until March-June. The new intel haswells come out - faster and with better over clocking.

i'm on an old amd phenom II 955BE x4 (@3.8ghz) since 4 years and not even Diva has forced me to upgrade...infact i can use several instances without any issues....and since the multithreading update i never even bother bouncing.

may i suggest
1) click on the multithreaded led button at the bottom of the Diva GUi (to enable multiple core support). that alone should improve diva's perfomance by at least 30% on your cpu (at least that's the perfomance boost i get) as it will enable diva to spread across the cores.
2) dunno how overclockable your cpu is...but every little helps.
3)upgrading to an AMD FX 8350 i dunno if could help or not....in theory it should outperefom your phenomII by a long shot.....but while i can tell u Diva's multithreading works fine on a phenomII...i cannot guarantee u it would work on a new amd FX as i don't have one.

The 8350 was benchmarked on gearslutz by Scott, performance is pretty close to intel i7 quads.

The difference in performance between Phenom II X6 and FX-8350 could be worth it if it really bothers you [computer struggling with projects?]. Especially if you already own an AM3+ motherboard. AMD processors kept gaining performance since the good old Deneb [like your X6], by 10-20% with each generation, so 10% by 10% I lost track of how much you would gain with this new Vishera based AMD CPU. :) I have a Phenom 965 X4 Deneb and I don't need any more performance than that. It's perfect. I don't even think about it... maybe in a few years from now, but now I'm focussed on music, rather than technical mambo jumbo. One has to learn how to focus on stuff that is important in life to be satisfied and successful, put aside everything that's just plain secondary.

People made music with ATARI 520ST and Amigas 2000... I was one of them. :) If you find yourself upgrading your computer every few months because it doesn't satisfy you, you should take a good hard look at changing your way of thinking and your philosophy, not the computer... in other words forget about the benchmarks and make music. I must tell you that doing that feels absolutely pleasing. :) There was a certain period of time when I was afflicted with the same disease... and it got me nowhere. Gearoholic? Hoping that the "next big thing" will help you make better tunes? It doesn't work that way.

Cheers!
