Cubase 7 crashes hard

Can anyone comment on the iLok v. 1 incompatibility? I checked my licenses last night and there's at least one that I can't live without (S. Slate's F-G Compressor). So I bit the bullet and ordered a new iLok 2 (see my post above about upgrading hardware to match software ).

But if I install Cubase 7 before the new iLok arrives, will the mere presence of the iLok 1 muck things up EVEN IF I DON'T USE THOSE PRODUCTS?

Also, as a side note, can anyone point me to a tutorial or other instructional on how to transfer the licenses to the new iLok? iLok.com just has options, but I didn't see any step-by-step on this. I assume just putting them on a new ilok2 will solve the compatibility issues.

Any help here, as always, much appreciated.

As long as your software is supported on your OS, then you'll be fine with iLok2. I had a problem with Waves V7 crashing Cubase 6/7, but it's actually unsupported beyond Cubase 5. But the iLok2 should work, I got Slate and some other stuff on that and it works fine.

As for transferring the licenses, it's really, really easy. You just select "Transfer Licenses" on the website (upper right), choose the source iLok, then the target iLok2. You can transfer them all around, up and down, doesn't matter.

Yes. Your WUP only applies to your new V9 plugs. Unless you upgraded your V8's, they still need the iLok license. Check the Waves specs to see if they're compatible with Cubase 7 and your OS!

Yes. Your WUP only applies to your new V9 plugs. Unless you upgraded your V8's, they still need the iLok license. Check the Waves specs to see if they're compatible with Cubase 7 and your OS!

In December 2011 I was new customer and Cubase Artist 6 was the first Daw I bought. It was called a "state of the art product" at that point in time...So from my perspective as a new customer I would have to pay 60% for the upgrade after less than 1 year.

Now you're confusing me. You have v. 1 and v. 2 side by side 'living in peace?' Why would you do this, rather than just send all the licenses over to v. 2? Or are there some licenses that CAN'T be sent to v. 2?

This is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is at what stage of the life cycle you made the purchase. You bought late. That gives you little value if you upgrade immediately. But that isn't Steinbergs fault or problem.

No, you can wait another year or so to get your perceived value out of the existing product. Steinberg have not taken your investment away. Some would even suggest you are far better off waiting for the .5 release of any product. That would give you another year or so of use. Or you could use it for the next 3 or 4 years and buy C8 ... with a net cost of 8 or 9% a year maintenance on your current investment.

Nope just that I have two licences of my main daw on two different dongles. So I only transferred one from .......... another Ilok1

So if a dongle misfunctions one day I'll still be able to keep on working

Recently switched from Elements 6 to S1 Producer and I am happy. That is some BS that they release the product before it's ready. They should've just waited.

Not really sure you can compare that to the debacle happening over on the Cubase forums. The vast majority of S1 users seem to be happy with the 2.5 update.

Just to add to this so there is a thread on here for crashes for cubase 7. Their are people posting on gearslutz with issues, and the official steinberg forum. Their is issues with THEIR OWN HARDWARE with Cubase 7. Your owned by Yamaha, wouldn't you have higher expectations of cubase 7 as far as functionality. With all the issues, I wouldn't wanna be a beta tester. If you were to do a survey for muscians/dj's/pop producers I bet they pick studio one/pr/logic/ableton or studio one over cubase for making music. Not mixing or engineering. Check out producer MDL (Justin Bieber "Boyfriend" and Maroon 5). USed cubase for a while, and now uses FL Studio all the time and cubase every now and then. Quote on FL Studio to Cubase "I can get ideas out quicker."
