I know a lot of people are probably thinking "If you want Largo sound, then use Largo." I would purchase it, but I think it's about $100 too much. Also, I know that Zebra is immensely powerful and capable of almost any sound. :)

Does anyone know if a good Zebra soundset that has a lot of sounds like this? I love the shrill bite of the filters. I'm sure it's probably difficult to really replicate these sounds because of the unique characteristics of the "Waldorf Sound," but anything close to this would be great.

It is beautiful wavetables are playing great role in this sound IMHO. So wait for Zebra 3 and you will be able to load any high-res wavetables (i. e. by Galbanum). As for filters, I found the sound of modern Waldorf filters not very musical. But a lot of distortion curves is a good thing. So I hope there will be a lot of choices of filters saturation curves and also dedicated distortion module.

Hi,

i have sold Zebra last year but still own Diva. Besides that i got a little knowledge about the Waldorf synths and wavetable synthesis (see my signature).

The term "wavetable" is sometimes used in a confusing way. The Galbanum waveforms /i got them too...) are called "wavetables" on their website but those are "simple" single cycle waveforms AFAIK.
If we talk about "real" wavetables we talk about "wavetable scanning synthesis" like first done with the PPG Wavecomputer and the PPG Wave 2 synths. Later this was also used in most of the Waldorf synths.
The Wavetables in Largo like e.g. those form the Waldorf Q ("Alt1" + "Alt2") contain up to 128 single waveforms. The special thing is that you could morph trough those 128 waveforms using e.g. an envelope or a LFO.
The wavetables in the PPg Wave which are included with Largo usually use less waveforms but they use interpolation to slowly morph from one to the next waveform. Any wavetable, also when interpolation is involved, will create 128 waveforms in Largo which could be selected and modulated. Based on that the overall number of waveforms in Largo is huge.

Zebra seems to be able to create wavetables too if you load 16 different waveforms to the waveform slots. Interpolation seems to be involved there too.
I am not exactly sure where (maybe others could help) but AFAIK most of the PPG wavetables are available for Zebra too.
Even with that it will be maybe possible to come close to Largo but maybe you will also fail due to the fact that the Waldorf filters have a unique sound and are not based on any vintage analog filters except the filter in the PPG Wave 3.V plugin. Envelopes and FX could be also different etc.
Anyway the fact that Zebra could do wavetable synthesis does not necessarily mean that you get the same sound as Largo if you don't get exactly the same waveforms as used there.

BTW an important thing in e.g. Largo and the Blofeld hardware synth (which is almost identical in terms of the synth engine) is the drive durves in the filters like e.g. the Tube drive. This gives a more "analog" sound IMO.

I don't want to hold you back from anything, this is just a little information.

second to last post has a link to the wavetables converted to zebra. not preset sounds.. but the oscillator waveforms so you can create your own sounds :)
Oops, looks like i missed that (and seemed to be available while i had Zebra myself...) but i got the "real" Largo anyway... :)
