So I took the time to actually demo it within a project today... and my original opinion stands, don't really see what the problem is

I can understand making the bg layer a little more photo-realistic and some slight tweaking to lower the color saturation on the knobs... but honestly, I've been using it just fine without becoming sterile, feeling like I'm in grade school, turning into a crazed maniac, etc.

Looks like our channel strip's GUI has been universally panned (pun intended.)
We will probably update the graphics in a future update. Truth be told, these graphics were sort of a last minute stand-in. Seems a certain company frowned upon usage of our original graphics...

We're trying to convince Peter to post the originally intended graphics on our Facebook. We'll see how that goes!

However, I will say this - the quality of this channel strip model overcomes however it may look. Sure, some may say the GUI looks like it was made with crayons by deranged cub scouts after eating the wrong mushrooms on a scout camping trip, but it certainly does not sound like it (unless of course that's the sound you're going for.) The interface quickly becomes less of the focal point and more what it should be: simply the means by which you interact with an amazing sounding processor. You end up mixing with your ears instead of your eyes.

A lot of plugins seem to be designed more with playing with a pretty interface in mind and less about how it sounds in your mix. They seem to be trying to trick your brain into thinking the plugins sound better. In the case of the British Channel, the sound quality of the plugin actually tricks your brain into thinking it looks better!

they dont even hear the plugins man, your average listener can't even tell when they are hearing harmony or solo vocals.

we are all WAY more hung up on sound quality than 99% of listeners... it's still the songwriting choices you make that matter the most.

nothing to do with photorealism, nor is there a problem being colourful...the problem is lack of cohesion and total randomness that end in a combined visual mess

it needn't look like the hardware, it should just look better

and the whole 'mixing with ears not eyes' sentiment ends up just being patronising....if gui is not important then just use sliders and text...

'ugly but sounds good' seems to be the general sentiment so people are really not missing the point

I'm still demo'ing it - just so that I can prove that I do have some sort of control over my GAS.

It does a very, very fine job sonically - I absolutely love it on drums. Once you start digging in, the GUI ceases to be a concern. In terms of functionality and layout, everything is there in its right place. The issue is purely aesthetic.

But of course, I'm a sucker for eye-candy so I'll certainly appreciate the improved GUI.

Good to hear. TBH, there would have been a lot less commotion if you had said this from the beginning: "People, here's our channel strip. The UI isn't finished yet due to IP issues, so try to ignore the looks for now. We still thought it would be great to have you people try it sooner than later. If you have ideas and wishes for the UI, let us know!"

Yeah the more I play with it the more I like it. I was in video chat with some friends who say they actually prefer its look over the other overly serious looking SSL channel strip emulations surprisingly. They said it was a cool psychedelic look.
