Damn... this is almost like politics. The people discuss, vote, and then the government comes and decide something completely different. That's democracyShifrin wrote:Urs wrote:My favourites are Polivoks filter, TB303 filter and a digital oscillator![]()
Just joking, of course. I'm certain that whatever you come with will be great

Fernando, you know, there's another synth that might be much better suited for a M12 emu than Diva... I'm not sayIng or suggesting anything here, but if... then...

Bazille? Straight out analog subtractive isn't exactly its strength.pdxindy wrote:try Bazille and Aaltokmonkey wrote:http://www.elektron.se/products/analog?section=sounds - listen audio examples and do not look at that awful promotion video..
Why can't i have that punchy super fast "i have so much balls" (in lack of finding proper word hahaha) sound with most of my software synths??
And what everyone hears in Aalto is an enduring source of mystery to me.

i believe that with an oberheim filter it would be complete sonically, as far as analog goes.
there's allready osc retrigger in the beta....not sure if a digital oscillator is priority anymore...unless wanna open up diva to wavetables ? *drooooooools*
or just for the jp8000 supersaw osc?

The poster was asking for a sonic characteristic... not an analog emulation. So I mentioned the two synths that I think can best capture the snarling, punchy, crisp (but not digital) sound he was asking about.hakey wrote:Bazille? I do feel like in the analogue stakes one area Diva feels missing to me is having a warmer creamier Osc and filter combo - like a Prophet 5 or Oberheim...

I think that the audio examples he explicitly referenced are the clearest, least ambiguous indication of what he's after, no?pdxindy wrote:The poster was asking for a sonic characteristic... not an analog emulation. And the clips at the Elektron site are analog-subtractive writ large - just the kind of thing that Diva does pretty well, Bazille less so, and Aalto not at all.

Was the Prophet 5 known as particularly warm or creamy sounding synth (more so than, say, a Minimoog)? Genuine question.analoguesamples909 wrote:I do feel like in the analogue stakes one area Diva feels missing to me is having a warmer creamier Osc and filter combo - like a Prophet 5

Yes, I listened to some of the audio clips he referenced... and made a suggestion based on them... you are of course welcome to have a different opinion
Aalto does some absolutely gorgeous analog-subtractive sounds that are edgier than Diva... same with Bazille... and both with exceptional sound quality!

This is a great point. It seems that a lot of us were voting on what we'd most want as opposed to what would be the best way to expand DIVA's capabilities, which I agree would be by adding warmer, creamier oscillators and filters such as what are in the Prophet 5 v2, early Oberheim's, and I'm guessing the CS-80.analoguesamples909 wrote:I do feel like in the analogue stakes one area Diva feels missing to me is having a warmer creamier Osc and filter combo - like a Prophet 5 or Oberheim...

yeah I think so personally. I had a Prophet 600 and the Sequential CEM implementation has a lovely sound to it - but the other aspect is that it is perfect in my opinion for polysynth sounds. It has just the right weight and warmth for that classic polysynth tones-alongside the filter. Similar with Oberheim variant which seems slightly different.hakey wrote:Was the Prophet 5 known as particularly warm or creamy sounding synth (more so than, say, a Minimoog)? The Moog sound IMO is too powerful and brash for polysynth duties. People tend to think, undesandably, that Moog is the ultimate because its so great for mono duties - so therefore lets go polyphonic with it - but Ive never liked it that much with polyphony...same with modern variants such as Andromeda and Studio Electronic synths. They sound overbrearing and brash to me. Even my Moog Source sampled and played polyphonic doesnt sound as good as a prophet sound.
Prophet is perfect for poly
PS the Roland poly sound is cool - but in my experience like in Diva it has a certain sparkle to it where P5 tends to be fatter and warmer. Some people talk about the American sound and Japanese sound. Thats what DIva needs IMO if its to really cover the analogue spectrum. I'd also go so far to ask Urs again for his muffler addition to take some of the strident high freq again from the raw Osc sound - as they cut too clean IMO. I know he wont do it - but I still ask.
