Awesome. That was the "answer" I was hoping for.Guy Rotem wrote:Thanks jalcide. Glad you're enjoying Element!
If there's anything I've learned in 19 years of synthesis and sound design, it's that the basis for a good sounding synth, is good sounding components (oscillators, filters, etc..).
You can always add bits and bobs and psychoacoustics and tears of a virgin unicorn, but if the quality of the basic components isn't there, no magical code can save a synth..
Nothing against Gladiator's psychoacoutic mojo stuff, I like that synth, too. I'm just noticing a similarity in how richly things almost "microtune" or fatten, or something. It also reminds of the how the NLS or VCC add a certain stereo, 3d widening at harmonic points.
I guess I don't really care how it's getting its sound, but let's just hope it's not each Element instantiation that must sacrifice a unicorn's happiness. Awww.
I've also been noticing even seemingly basic/simple sounding patches (like the "I M ANALOG" lead patch, get more impressive the longer you hold the note and listen to it subtly evolve, twist, phase and detune.
But, my favorite observation, so far, is the organic stuff you can sometimes get to happen between the smallest RES values, a RES "sweet spot." It reminds me of analog hardware in that way you can get a small twist of a knob to almost morph into a whole new patch.
