Can't get zebra 2 to change patches on clip changes with Ableton

hi folks, hope someone can help me. It sure seems like I've done what previous threads suggest.

In zebra, I have folders (banks) of patches in the MIDI Programs folder. They are named things like

"1 - song 1"
"2 - song 2"

Within those folders patches are named
"9 - some patch"

In Ableton, the clip info pane has a bank number and a program number assigned to it. Changing clips does nothing to Zebra, it just keeps playing on whatever patch it's on. Anyone know what I might be missing?

thanks
Iain

My guess would be the number should have place holders ("001 - patch name", "003 -different patch", etc.) if I remember my MIDI protocol. They wrote this in like... the eighties so... you know, it's kinda clunky.

Give it a try.

Iain,

There might have been a hiccup with one of the versions, it might be fixed in the current public beta (see thread in this forum).

Also note that Bank 0 is the actual MIDI Programs folder. If Live starts counting banks at 1 then it's that.

Nevertheless, maybe it's something we can help figuring out if you send us a project with a short explanation to support at u-he dot com

Cheers,

Urs

I have the same issue. Zebra is useless to me without the ability to change patches via program changes in clips. It is not a problem with any other synths that I own. I will hold off on buying Zebra until this problem is fixed. The problem is simple: You can create some blank MIDI clips in live and then assign programs to them in the clip view by using the drop down menu under the word "program". For any other synth, playing the clip will trigger a program change and change the patch. Zebra simply isn't listening to this info.

Are you using the midi programs folder?

Program Change works as it should.

Best way to do it (imho) is to open your Explorer
-> goto Zebra2.data\Presets\Zebra2\MIDI Programs
-> put all your desired Presets into this folder/or in extra folders.

MIDI Programs (no extra folder) for your Pgm Change presets

The Clip configuration is

-> Bank 1 (MIDI Programs/no extra folder)
-> Sub ---
-> Pgm 1 (first preset)

one folder for your Pgm Change presets
-> Bank 2 (first Folder)
-> Sub ---
-> Pgm 1 (first preset)

two folders for your Pgm Change presets
-> Bank 3 (second Folder)
-> Sub ---
-> Pgm 1 (first preset)

three folders for your Pgm Change presets
-> Bank 4 (third Folder)
-> Sub ---
-> Pgm 1 (first preset)

You have to know that Live counts Midi Programs as BANK 1. (As Urs mentioned in another thread)

When you use Zebras preset browser to setup your Midi Programs you have to delete it from the midi track first and re-load it to changes take effect. Zebra caches the Pgm Changes (Midi.Bank.Cache.txt) first (as mentioned by xh3rv,thanks for the info)

I have tested this with all versions of Live 8-9 32/64 (lastest betas included).

I hope i could help.

Have fun! Smile

Ari

Thanx Ari for that detailed explanation! :)

I think that post itself should be a sticky thread titled Zebra Midi Program Change (or some such)
