Hey all,

I have had my A7X monitors for most of a year and I really love them. My friend who first recommended them still insists that I would be happier with an ADAM subwoofer. Right now I have an old Radio Shack hi-fi woofer. $600 seems quite steep, so I am weighing options. I see that there are B-Stock Sub7's for $450 right now, but I sure don't want a defective unit with no returns. Then, there is the SubF coming really soon (Jan 8th) for just $400. The difference so far, I see no HP 85Hz filter and no remote with easy crossover/volume control.

Anyone want to clue me in on how the Sub7 is superior? I have never had my speakers routed through a proper sub with satellite outputs. It seems like a really good option.

Thanks and happy holidays!

The HP filter ensures the sub is matched properly with speakers, removing some frequency bleed and tightening up the sound overall and also the cone is a better material.

I'd acturly go for the B-stock item but then I'd also expect the B-stock item to have at least a basic year warranty as well.

Ok. After some further reading i like the Sub7 over the SubF. Now, should i consider the Sub8? Some people seems to swear by them, the 7 being the smallest in the line. The reason I say now is that it appears zzounds.com will take 4 payments on the 7 or the 8 making the affordability better for me. Only $40 a month spent on a permanent upgrade. $600 Sub7 vs $750 for the Sub8 in reality.

I have found now that my old SW-10P 120W 10" cone Radio Shack provides me with invaluable low ranges, but it is highly prone to rattling. Possibly internal damage. It was even a floor model when I bought it some 10 years ago.

Anyone have experience with this zzounds "Play as You Pay" at all? I have avoided such things in the past. Once I applied for a service and it rejected my non-existent credit.

Anyone with experience with Sub7 vs Sub8? I also do not want to wake up the neighbors or annoy people. I just thought - it is said there is a 'tighter response' or something from the Sub8?

Thanks for the support all! :D

hmm.. it appears that the Sub8 lacks the bypass footswitch option.. that is bad for me.. i want to kill the bass when listening late at night!

just to report back - i have the Sub7 and it is great. the bypass footswitch doesn't work the way i expected, but i am sure that the Sub8 would have been excessive anyway. the 7 provides plenty of heavy bass for my house which is not sound-proofed. i love the remote control for keeping things within reason at different times of day/night.

i feel like i am hearing my old mixes for the first time with proper low end. i see a lot of mistakes, so i know i am on the right track. lol. many peoples' listening systems go this low where monitors alone weren't doing it. it is interesting also to see how leaving the heavy bass on a different cone and letting the A7X work on 85hz and above helps them be even more precise.

while i am typing this old track of mine started rattling things on the floor where i never meant to do it - this is from like 2007 with cheap monitos, no sub, and no room treatment.

thanks all for helping me get to a better sonic state! it is wonderful for just listening to music too. :)

For me that's one of the biggest selling points of having a 2.1 setup! It's really quite suprising how much difference it makes but then I suppose the transients are a lot tighter if the cone doesn't have to travel anywhere near as far.

You mentioned a lack of sound proofing, it's probably worth doing it properly and adding some bass traps if you haven't already and a proper recoil platform for the sub and speakers will tighten it up further along with some reflection point absorption.

i do have traps now - i was talking about this track from several years ago being bad because of that lack.

i have had the sub for about 10 days and it keeps on impressing me with its usefulness. i might hear it 'breaking in' a little too. sometime i will work on its placement more, but for now i am glad that it worked out and i can recommend the setup to other people for sure.
