I think some of the new reverb patches that came with the latest update add the sort of early reflections etc that are desirable for that sort of job.

I would agree that using the delay controls in the cab IR area is probably more something to use if you are trying to remove undesirable cancellation effects (comb filtering) from out of phase cab impulses. If you are going to use the delay control as a widening effect, you might want to use it panned hard right and hard left.

Well, that's not how I interpreted it. Anyways, whatever, I'm happy for you cats that really like it and I was wrong about the IR's (well, it's been updated and I wasn't up to date)

I'll play around with the delay some more but I was under the impression that like the manual says, with cabs panned R/L it can add width. I mean, I'd expect people that "rt_m" to know what I was talking about.......

It's a fine product at a fair price. I'm still really mad though that I was told the "big 3" were on the TOP of the priority list so long ago and yet nadda. Forgive me.

Hey, one issue solved!

TSE 808 emu on the front end helps with the high gain.

Also worth trying Ignite Amps TS-999 and TSE R47.

With any of these virtual stomps in front of S-Gear, I really don't think it needs the High-Gain amp that so many have requested.

Guess not, but still a TS emu in the box would be nice. I was told it was HIGH on the priority list a year ago

I don't know what that means. But they don't allow transfers.

You chaps don't sound like metalheads or I would suggest maybe Nick Crow's 8505, TSE-X50 (the Peavey 5150 clone), RevolutionZ, and these are all freeware but excellent for high gain. Even so, everyone you see on YouTube or RealWorld still slaps an OD or some manner of boost on the front end of these straight away. Some never have enough gain no matter what amp sim they use.

Of all the boosts, and I've probably tried all or close, the TSE-808 still to my mind edges out all others. It has a certain edge to it and a certain something that gets the amp sounding its best. I like Distorque's (is it?) RangeBastard clone of the ancient Rangemaster but it is a different animal, a true treble booster.

I used to have the Fractal FX II, and bought the ElevenRack before that. Not boasting -- don't waste your money or 1/3 your waking hours tweaking -- the only way to make either one truly sound right is lengthy fine-tune tweaking. But based on experience with those (which I sold, keeping only a couple of the better Digitechs for hardware modeling in live settings) I still have to say that I get much better sounds through the S-Gear 2. I'll say that anytime the topic comes up. And some sort of official S-Gear gain or OD is on the way. Mike there had to appease the MAC users and so on first by porting it all to them. Tedious. Then there was the Room Thing reverbish FX addition. They were screaming, We have no reverbs -- sacrilege! Really am liking that now, a nice touch to a great package. Up to $99 USD now, but was $79 for quite some time. I see similar attempts that don't sound half as good being pushed on players at $250 for less of a package. Amp Devil, meh.

Can't stand IK's attempt to nickle and dime players to death forever. Like NI -- always trying to push more of the samey sounding junk over and over. I hate that middleman approach. Constant junk mail daily but afraid to unsubscribe because one of them -- who can know -- just might offer something good by mistake, the Holy Grail, you know. Amplitube's starter pack, the American and the British amps don't sound like any Fenders or Marshalls ever made. Middlemen -- I mean, just let me buy only the one I want and then get out of my face and leave me alone. It's like having your Mum constantly asking you if you need another sandwich before you head off to get some playing in.

I told some AcmeBeerGig fanbois that I did like that one very high-gain amp sim they have, but I guess I asked the wrong questions about the other thing with the 100 modules you spend 6 months switching out to build any kind of decent trademark sound. I dared to question their god and some dozen of them started wetting themselves. Acted like I had patted their GF's bottom. Then they tried to flame me to death.

How can anyone on any of these forums get so absurdly emotional and out of control over what is only a bunch of bloody ones and zeeros? I'm talking about sorts that will only ever play with these sims and themselves in their bedrooms -- never have, never will play an actual gig. So it's not like their livelihoods are at stake.

Anyone have or try any or all of the Lepou collection of amp sims and his cabinets? I'm very keen on those as well. His cabinets are the best freeware cabs I've ever found. If you have issues with loading IRs in S-Gear, you can defeat those cabs and use the faster loading Poulin LeCab 1's or the bigger 2 (6 cabs in one! you can make a virtual wall of sound if that suits!).

Whatever your favourite -- and those S-Gear are and remain mine -- I remember when amp sims first came on the scene, thought it was a joke seriously, and never believed it would get this far. On S-Gear, I can get the full pick attack from the first touch of it or scratch against the string to bloom and all the way through like a good boutique amplifier. The only other one I had that could do that with was Fractal at more than 20 times the cost. That, to me, is remarkable.

Well, I can understand if their priorities about OD stompboxes have changed because there really is great freeware stompboxes nowadays, like bigcraigie wrote. Also Ignite Amps Anvil is GREAT ampsim btw. Actually S-Gear and Anvil are only sims that I use. I have some Amplitude fender models but they just gather dust. When you compare AT3 and S-Gear amp sounds with cabs bypassed you really hear difference of guality (at least with those fenders I have).

Lately I've been also checking free Nebula cab programs and the new ones seem to work pretty damn good compared to some older ones. Of course I use them only during mixing.

BTW my metal days are pretty much over so I'm not after high-gain. For that there are amazing free sims though.

For stompboxes and modulation I prefer to use dedicated plugins and only use them when really in need.
