One question:

Does MIDI GUITAR support sample rates others than 44.1? Lets say 88.2 or 96?

Hello,

I have Studio One 2.5 Pro (Mac version) but I don't have much experience with DAWs. Can someone please give me detailed step-by-step instructions on how to use MidiGuitar with Studio One? The instructions on JamOrigin's site don't work for me - http://www.jamorigin.com/midi-guitar/Wi ... index.html (http://www.jamorigin.com/midi-guitar/Windows-Mac/help/index.html)

Firstly, after I drag MidiGuitar (AU) onto an audio track it launches but doesn't do anything - all I can hear is the sound of my guitar, and nothing appears on the Output Visualization in MidiGuitar.

Secondly, after adding an instrument track, MidiGuitar doesn't appear as an option under All Inputs. When I go to define MidiGuitar as an input (using these instructions - http://support.presonus.com/entries/217 ... tudio-One- (http://support.presonus.com/entries/21728493-How-do-I-set-up-my-MIDI-device-in-Studio-One-)) I don't know what to select under Receive From.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

When you say our guide does not work, do you then mean this video guide?

Based upon your description saying that MIDI Guitar does not appear as an option on All Inputs and that you are using on Mac OS X, my best guess is that you are using the Audio Unit instead of the VST.

Yes, it should work. Please let us know if you experience problems with higher samplerates.

I have been running MIDIGuitar at 48khz since the first beta with no problems.

BTW latency feels real nice in the new beta, Thanks.

Hi Ole,

Thanks for your fast response. Yes, that was the problem. I was using the AU version because I didn't see the VST version in my Effects list.

I googled the difference between AU and VST and read about the differences here - http://forums.presonus.com/posts/list/19861.page (http://forums.presonus.com/posts/list/19861.page) "As far as I know AU plugins don't support midi-out. Apple doesn't seem to develop this format any more. And in case of transferring projects to pc it's better to be on the safe vst side." AND "[AU] Effect plug-ins that are able to receive MIDI don't show up in the Output dropdown box of Instrument Tracks (e. g. Antares Harmony Engine)."

I also figured out where to put the VST version in my plugins folder - Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

It works perfect now. Thanks again.

Btw, everyone... Ole provides amazing support. Top-notch :-)

I experienced some weird behavior of MIDI GUITAR v6.1 on my ATOM 1.66 GHz netbook last night. Note on messages started to get like mired, this is, some notes were kept sounding even when the strings were released. In order to stop the sounding note I had to click on synth's panic button or to play the "offending" note again to stop it.

Another weird thing happened in my DAW computer: all MIDI GUITAR (all versions) stopped working, both standalone and vst. I had to download the latest versions again to make them work. I have no answers for these strange things that happened yesterday.

Is a bass guitar recognition version coming soon? I have no need for polyphony so I haven't been testing it much.

Two weeks ago before upgrading to 6.1 I noticed that my version five stopped working as well. Thought this was just a isolated incident but apparently some other folks see the plug stop working as well. 6.1 seems be working okay here. Maybe there was a timeout or expiration date on five version.

hi there! i'm still a little bit confused about MIDI Guitar regarding latency. i watched this video which made me wonder what kind of computer and audiointerface you need to actually achieve such low latency values and high accuracy. i'm using windows xp on a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ machine in combination with the tascam fireone audiointerface and cubase 5. the lowest setting possible (on my computer without audio cracks) with the fireone audiointerface is 2.5 ms with a buffer size of 128 samples (the setting in MIDI Guitar). even with these settings which look fine to me i'm not nearly able to achieve such low latency and high accuracy. what's the trick? ;)

*update*
bought a new processor (AMD Phenom II X4). Latency, accuracy improved significantly. so that's the trick i guess.

128 buffer is nice latency. Be sure to check this setting within your interface (not only in MIDI GUITAR). I've found a little discrepancy in the latency settings that MIDI GUITAR shows and the real buffer settings the sound card is set to. Also consider the round trip latency. I've achieved very good playability of MIDI GUITAR at 256 buffer setting.

A quick test with my Bass guitar (even if the software is actually made for a guitar)

While playing , i did a couple of errors, but i want to say that this software is actually pretty Awesome. Looking foward for a bass preset in the future.

Thanks!!!!!

and an other one

I had my first gig with MIDI GUITAR last night. The software performed nicely and smooth, no noticeable false notes and pretty good accuracy. I played with a buffer setting of 128 which is very good with a "not so crappy" (it does the job) Behringer UCA 222 interface at 44.1 sample rate, I could go faster but didin't want to put too much strain to CPU, preventing possible drop outs and pops from sound card, but I'm sure I can go better latency settings with my upcoming new interface (ESI MAYA 44 XTe PCIe) which is on its way. I intend to set this card to 88.2 sample rate to get a richer, fuller guitar dry signal for the amp simulators such Amplitube. At higher sample rates also latency decreases so it is expected to have a better performance of MIDI GUITAR as well.

This software is really and definitevely a great tool, I'm into software sound mostly and this simplyfies things, less equipment to carry (Roland system) and it can be played with any guitar. Perhaps it is not as accurate as the hardware counterpart but is completaly useable and its playability is very satisfactory. I played mostly lead parts with mono character, some monophonic playing and synth presets work better (to my taste) at poly setting.

I observed that MIDI GUITAR does not store the synth and patch selected and loaded directly within the software in VST plugin mode, at least on SENSOMUSIC USINE which I use as host for live performance, not an issue for me, USINE is a modular software and I just get the midi out signal from MIDI GUITAR to synth midi in, and the host stores and saves everithing.

There still are some more improvements in poly mode tracking to be done, the -per string- functionality of hex systems makes the difference, but MIDI GUITAR achievement in poly recognition is awsome any way. Pitch bent works nicely. Dynamic response would be a great feature although the "velocity" adjustment helps getting nice even sounds. Sometimes playing fast in mono mode some notes played are missing but I believe its a matter of adjustment and software refinement. Something to have very clear is the nature and characteristics of synth presets used, tweaking is mandatory.

I'm pretty happy with MIDI GUITAR performance and efectivity, its developement is in a goog way. I'm sure Ole is coming with new improvements soon, he's been away from the forum for a few days, these guys are working.

This IS the most wonderful little toy. Runs like clockwork in Cubase win7x64 with my M-audio FW410, and I'm pretty sure I'll end up buying it!

There is one thing though: How you demand money for at beta-version? Seems quite unsympathetic to me.

Congratulations! I can see that this would be Yourock and Roland GR's toughest competition. I had been hoping someone would do this right more than 3 years ago. Can't wait to try this! :)
