I was so pleasantly surprised when I bought Rapture, it comes with nearly 1000 free presets and most of them are really great. Especially Muz3um patches, stellar stuff! Sounds really good too. The only thing I don't like is GUI with its archaic browsing system. Hopefully it will be redesigned for v2.

Shit! I forgot about Rapture. I was working on a bank for that and the sounds were great. (Factory sounds were tops) I'll have to finish that bank of sounds some time over the next few months. Thanks for reminding me

getting this in the black friday no-brainer was a fu*kin' result...but i echo what you say with regard to the browser..it really does put quite the damper on proceedings, especially for a preset dweller like myself

I certainly hope so.

It's a great (and very underrated) synth, it would be awesome if they decide to give it a good-looking GUI and a modern browser just like they've done with Z3ta+.

I love these kind of threads. There will never be an answer but the choices people make shows a lot of what type of producer/music maker they are and what music appeals to them.

Gsi VB3 is awesome for $50 if you like accurate virtual b3 tones

Rapture, Z3ta and Dimension pro plus others and a bad ass DAW.

That will get you tons of presets and lots of bread and butter tones.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Could not agree more as I own sonar and the content with Z3ta, Rapture, True Amber for piano sounds plus Dimension Pro is more included content of superior quality that its a for certain Burton to grab that package because you have to use a DAW anyway and then they offer drop zone, pentagon, Square and sound center as well so lots more content and I almost forgot the drim sounds with session drummer and beatscape. For me Z3ta is the go to lead synth with filters that do more than most. I actually like it as much as Diva.

Add in those other synths and you have all the basics plus tones and sounds that are proven winners.

I think I have those exact synths on my wish list but so far nobody has mentioned the fact that usually you only want to play one sound at a time so figure out your main organ piano and strings then add the pads and leads. If your into ethnic sounds mess around with the free kong guzheng and syntar plus DSK has some cool ethnic synth sounds included.

Still amazed with Korg legacy and the thousands of sounds you can use there and how M1 is so easy to combine tones togther is amazingly simple.

OPX may be the best analog synth for classic sounds and VB3 is tops in organ vsti's add Native instruments to those choices and your done with even more organ piano and orchestral sounds to boot lots of FX and synths. I think I am going to be snagging something soon and if I get the latest CM I may fall in love with the synthmaster tones as well. The new alchemy version with the CM content is awesome as well.

The latest version of Predator is up to about 4000 presets now, a lot of which are of very good quality.

Synth1 of course.
>10000 presets.
Some great sounds, some not so good, but i think at least 10% of that 10000 is very usable without any tweaking and the remaining 90% with some tweaking.

I broke down and added synthmaster solely on the strength of the demos from Nori. They are the best at nailing classic prog I have ever heard including the opx player. Now if they add that disk streaming and we can load our own content and added to the various synthesis methods it already has I can see it developing into the monster synth everyone develops for over the others. Having Nori on their side is probably a major coupe in the world of sound design go to their website and read the about us page and read what Nori has been a part of and tell me you won't want hear everything he develops from now on. I just hope he targets more classic rock sounds from YES, Dream Theater, Kansas and others he's done already like Genesis, ELP, Pink Floyd and even some SAGA and Styx. I think it may have been this thread that led me to go after synthmaster.

Sheer number of sounds is not what is important to me. Finding sounds I will use is. That should be your mode of thinking. You probably only play a few at the same time so having 10,000 presets to look through may be a bad thing.

I like Nexus and Zeta myself. Look up A.N.A too, that's a pretty sweet plugin I just discovered.

Alchemy,(the full version), is top of my list without any doubt...

1) Hugely versatile - does just about everything + does it well.

2) If you just want presets to tweak - there are loads of excellent ones + lots of quality free banks available + the numerous professionally designed ones are well-priced and often stunning.

3) GUI is very easy to navigate - quite intuitive....It has tagging and rating systems!!!

4) If you want to get in deeper and design your own sounds, the modulation possibilities are extensive to say the least.
