Again it's a matter of screen real estate. There are many things I'd love to add, but you'd need a 4096x4096 monitor to see them. Or you'd have to flip through 20 different pages...

Anyway, it's probably too late for V2, but I'll keep it in mind for V2.1 :)

Cheers,

hey, Big Tick

maybe this has already been mentioned, but in the mod-matrix, could the ring mods be labelled RM1 and RM2, instead of AM1 and AM2?

I'm guessing it was "A" for "annular modulation", but over here it reads as "amplitude modulation"

Post

Actually the Rhino ring-mod is an amplitude mod - so the label is right :-)

Here's another feature request:

Instead of choosing envelopes for an oscillator from a pulldown menu, how about having a small toolbar with an icon for each envelope? There aren't that many so a small horizontal toolbar wouldn't take up too much space.

What would really be helpful is if the buttons on the toolbar also indicated if a envelope was active for that particular parameter by highlighting the button.

At this rate 2.0 will never be out. :D

Even cooler still would be small mute/solo buttons for each envelope like the new mute/solo buttons for each patch in an XPhraze combi in the new 1.2 XPhraze. They're very small and don't take up much space but I think they might be very helpful in figuring out what makes a patch (big) tick.

Indeed :-(

While we're piling on the requests:

1) A common frustration in editing envelopes in Rhino is barely missing an envelope point with a click and sliding the envelope window. I'd prefer if window sliding/resizing was strictly a right-button or key+button operation.

2) It would be nice to have some kind of auto "scale-to-fit" button that automatically resized the envelope window to display the full envelope.

I think Rhino's envelopes are one of its real power features so anything that can be done to make them easier to edit opens the door wider to patch programmers. Making it easier to edit envelopes and easier to see what envelopes are in effect would lower the bar considerably.

Well, I just discovered that this is already implemented.

I'd still like to see most of the context menu stuff in the envelope editor turned into toolbar buttons. Hotkeys would be cool too I guess.

Perhaps we can give Mr. 'Tick a break and save some of these great ideas for 2.01. They would be nice enhancements but you really want 2.0 in your hands sooner over later. It's sweet.

Do keep the suggestions coming, though!

Absolutely. I'm just sort of free-associating here. It sounds like there are already more than enough new features to justify a 2.0 release.

Yeah. Let's keep some of it for 2.01 :-)

Absolutely.

I'll take this opportunity to toss out more ideas for some future version of Rhino:

I've been playing around with Absynth 2 as part of the Komplete bundle and there are three things in its UI that I think would be great for Rhino:

1. All faders display their current numerical value in a text entry field just to the left of the fader that can be edited directly. This is nice for precise edits and for getting back old values.

2. Absynth allows you to copy and pate a complete channel or save it to a library, including oscillator, envelope, filter, tuning settings etc. Since one of the things Rhino does so well is layer complex sub-patches the ability to save and load these separately would make it a lot easier to build up Tim C. style patches.

3. Absynth also has a little wizard for generating rhythmic envelopes that lets you specify the number and duration of beats, slope of curves between peaks, and deltas between peaks and valleys. Rhino could do this or even go one better and let you import a short midi file as an envelope.

A trancegate or straight forward arpeggiator please. 8)

Post

OK, tip time: you can make trancegate effects with the combination of AM and waveshaper: use the waveshaper to force a waveform to "full 1", program a rhythmic pattern on the associated level envelope, and AM that with your base sound.
For arpeggiator effects, there's a tutorial on the web site. I agree it's not the most straightforward arpeggiator out there, but it works :-)
