Setup Issues

Hello!

I was wondering if I could get some help with the following setup issues for the two scenarios below:

(This is all the hardware I've got)

As you may notice, both scenarios have (apparently) strange things going on...

Ideally I'd like to do it all:

1) sequence in Logic from MIDI coming both from Receptor and from other Vis I have on my Mac hard drive
2) Have a functioning sustain pedal for both VI sources (Receptor & Mac)
3) Hearing VIs from my monitors both from Receptor and Mac.

Thanks for any suggestions/advice!

What are the 'strange things'?

I can tell you right now, if you're using USB and MIDI, Receptor may have problems.

Hi Jayvee,

Interesting to know...

Essentially, I would need to:

1) sequence in Logic from MIDI coming both from Receptor and from other Vis I have on my Mac hard drive
2) Have a functioning sustain pedal for both VI sources (Receptor & Mac)
3) Hearing VIs from my monitors both from Receptor and Mac.

But with both scenarios outlined below, I've encountered various difficulties, described in the graphic.

For example - I'm not sure if I need an audio card and a midi-thru (or secondary midi cable) to do what I want...

But for instance - as shown in SETUP B - it's weird that I don't have any sustain at all or do not have a way of monitoring my Mac-based virtual instruments.

Any feedback will help.

I don't know much about the MIDI implementation on the VAX77, but I would do one of the following:

Buy a small audio mixer and do this:
- Vax77 MIDI OUT to Receptor
- Vax77 USB OUT to MBPro
- Receptor audio out, MBPro headphone out to small audio mixer
- Mixer to Monitors

Buy an audio interface, and do this:
- Vax77 USB Out to Receptor, Vax77 MIDI Out to audio interface MIDI in
OR
Vax77 USB Out to MBPro, Vax77 MIDI Out to Receptor
OR
Vax77 USB Out to MBPro, audio interface MIDI Out to Receptor
- Receptor into Audio interface (S/PDIF, ADAT, Audio... your call... depends on what your interface supports)
- Audio interface out to monitors
