Hi,
Is there way to play and record an audio part while hearing the metronome on, but not have the metronome's ticking sounds recorded in those parts?
I mean recording softsynth part on the same audio device as the metronome.

The short answer is "yes". The long answer is I think you'll have to detail the signal path you have set up more clearly.
If you've mixed the two audio signals into a single signal before the point of recording, then there is only one signal being recorded (the mixed signal), containing both the synth sound and the metronome.
If you want to record the synth sound alone, then don't mix the metronome into the signal chain before the recording point.

I think a graphical metronome would be nice, with some area of the user interface (maybe an optional dedicated metronome strip across the entire width of the window) flashing rhythmically in a color of one's choice 
I don't like acoustic metronomes, they often get in the way of my instrument sound in one way or another.
Sometimes a free-running metronome would also be nice, i.e. without playing back or recording anything. Just to try some melody alone...
Somewhat related, sometimes it would be nice to be able to start recording without setting any bpm. And when you recorded some nice melody or whatever, you turn the speed on so to speak, manually setting it by changing the metronome speed until it fits into your recorded sequence.
