If i have a rack with an instrument playing, and 2 different compressors loaded in the rack can i easily bypass one compressor while the other is on then swift it around so that the one that was on is bypassed and the one that was bypassed is on? Trying to figure out the shortcuts....

To do an A-B comparison of two plugins? I'd like to know if there's a way to do that too. If not then add it to the wishlist please?

It takes two clicks: [Alt]+click the first plug to toggle its process on/off state, the same for the second plug.BrokenTrance wrote:If i have a rack with an instrument playing, and 2 different compressors loaded in the rack can i easily bypass one compressor while the other is on then swift it around so that the one that was on is bypassed and the one that was bypassed is on? It's not exactly what i meant because there will be a little bit of time in between without any of the effect applied. But i will use toggle on/offmutools wrote:It takes two clicks: [Alt]+click the first plug to toggle its process on/off state, the same for the second plug.BrokenTrance wrote:If i have a rack with an instrument playing, and 2 different compressors loaded in the rack can i easily bypass one compressor while the other is on then swift it around so that the one that was on is bypassed and the one that was bypassed is on? If you could select more than one rack entry and toggle process on/off in a single go, that'd work. But I don't think you can...
(With toggle meaning "switch to whatever the opposite of the current state is" rather than any specific value.)

Surely a MuX could be made to do A-B comparison? Using a 'Balance' knob you could left pan for one effect then quickly right pan for second? A crossfader would be better. This is a good instance where buttons would be handy

Well, a button acts like a switch, it switches between two or more states depending on the parameter involved. In this situation it would simply be on/off. But if switching cutoff types there'd be several states which needs an indicator to show which state is currently selected.
If there are many 'states' then two buttons would be an advantage for cycling up or down the list. Just like Hardware.

Along with those two buttons have an editable piece of text that displays its current state. That way we wont have to keep track of it all the time and we can label each state

As well there should be a "button" module for all three types of data. Also it would be nice to be able to define how many inputs this module will have so we can save/make space in the MUX

Indeed it does, but that's not the current topic and we don't wanna fluster Jo, he might think we're trying to push his plans ahead of schedule
Btw, a 'status' display is good but on occasion simple indicators can be easier to register. Like on Hardware, once you get used to it you know the position of the indicator represents this or that. With a display, you always need to register the text. You know what I mean?

I think i get what you mean. I don't have very much hardware so I can't really relate but I think I get the idea. Pretty much the text would have to be readable by the hardware controller which may vary between devices. Correct? Sorry if I i didn't get it right

HaHa! No not that. No apology necessary
It's a psychological thing. Imagine a display which has different states, ie, for cutoff types. Have to manually read the text, although it is quick, I've found that indicators are even faster for recognition. Most notably the EMX-1 has many indicators, though some are a little redundant or could be better used as display???
But the LFO has indicators for type and I notice out the corner of my eye without fully looking or diverting concentration to note the type when necessary. Like I say it's probably minimal but for some would make things easier in certain situations than a display.
Don't get me wrong though, I definitely think a display has a very good place on the front panel.

Oh I see! You're saying that instead of reading a full piece of text, have a little indicator light or something to have a quick and easy way to note what the current state is.
I do agree with this minus one little thing. I don't really want to memorize what goes into the input that the indicator signifies. Guess it's kinda a personal preference. Don't want to make a module a complete piece of software either. Nor do I want to make too much work for Jo. Though I do think you idea may have a more likely chance in the matter of time and cleanliness. An indicator would take much less space than a line of text.
