Do you think Instruments forum is getting crowded with sound banks and preset topics?

Any problems with the site? How can we improve KVR?

Do you think Instruments forum is getting crowded with sound banks and preset topics?

Yes, they should be moved to Sound Design / Market Place sections

Just give us a "New product alert" forum like on GS where all new commercial products like plugs and soundsets can live side by side. Then the Instruments and Effects Fora could be totally ruled by "what's the best broccoli emulation"-topics and other groundbreaking discussion and people searching for new sounds and plugs would know where to look for.

i suppose not everyone who uses synths and fx uses or is looking for banks/presets?
a subforum for patchnanks would keep them altogether i guess too. just whole pages of banks, doesnt that sound yummy to those who want patches?

The vast majority of my banks are free so I feel instruments or effects are more appropriate than the market place, but I did put my first commercial set Drone machines in the market place and would gladly have done that with the SEM bank too, it just ended up in instruments through habit. If a mod wants to move it to the market place I would have no problem with that. I think a soundbank subforum for both sharing and selling patches might be the best idea.

I agree that a soundware sub-forum would be best.
It would be for all preset banks / loops libraries / kontakt libraries... commercial or free.
In Instruments, we should discuss the instruments themselves.

The market place is best for time-limited offers and second-hand sales only.

I suppose not 100% of the people who buy plug-ins want preset banks. But I'd estimate it's 50% give or take, any day of the week, X2 if they are on sale. :hihi: Just saying. I hear the annoyance about clogged forums, and endlessly *bumped* threads about products. But that's what makes KvR....KvR really. I mean, we're all just music makers eh, why not talk together, in the same place, and where else can we all do that and feel halfway comfortable. :)

Just came to post this same advice. After 2 months they can be relegated to a soundbank sub forum perhaps. Though Soundbanks are quite closely related to their respective instruments.

nor do all those looking for soundsets for the instruments they have, wish to trawl thorough pages of instruments they don't want :)

would be much easier for those looking for soundsets to have them all in one place, and i'd imagine it also working out better for the sound designers to have a focused area without all the distractions

I think Aiyn made a good point,
a sub-forum will end into an enormous, huge, mess, just think about it.

If I am into the "Instrument X" thread I know there are informations related to it, and most of the times they are helpful (and not cats ). :hihi:

I can't argue that, I'd just ask = another forum area ?! Do a poll ? I'm down with "the majority opinion" :) I advertise my own stuff, for sure, but I try to stay within KvR's unwritten rules (*cough Meffy advice *cough*) ha-ha. Some people vary (too far) from that, and I can live with/ignore them, can you ? :D

i'd say it ought to be either instruments or market place or dev's own subforum or a product alert forum or a soundware forum BUT ONE THREAD ONLY per soundset / product.
Given that developer subforums require being opted-in to see, I cant see any viable reason why they shouldnt be allowed to post in a generic forum as well. After all, their developer subforum is only visible if you choose it to be, so only people who want to see posts there will.

Otherwise KVR is actually penalising those developers who have forums here, by not extending them the right to post their own promotional material in the forum they run unless they forego the right that any other developers, ie those without a forum here, would have to post in a generic forum.

I mean why should it matter to you that someone posts something elsewhere that's also in their developer forum if you can opt out of reading that developer forum in the first place. Well, unless you want to read it solely to complain about it, of course.

Right now if you go into the instrument section there are no less than 4 soundbank advertisements on the first page. On the next page there are 9. This is too much.

Okay a new product section gives us this:

A Single section that people can go to for "news buzz" whether it be a new synth, effect, or bank or DAW or whatever.

It won't clutter up the instrument section which would still be around for discussion of older synths.

After the 2 months soundbank news can be moved to a soundware section.

Imo, the market place should stay as it is. I don't think it's a good idea for topics to only come up in one location as we don't always check every area.

I should add I think developers should be able to post whatever they want in their own forums.

Multiple threads in mutliple sections, while not the best solution, is much better than restricting threads to a single section.

If LennarDigital releases Sylenth2 for example, wait.. If u-he releases Z3 for example, I don't check the developer forums, but I'd like to see it come up in the new products forum.

My point is that soundbank sellers need visibility beyond the market place. The Instruments forum is the most likely place but it's become saturated now. If we say soundbank designers can only advertise in the soundbank sub-forum, thats fair, but the problem is exposure. Not everyone want's to check multiple parts of the forum for news.

I fear it will just become a huge cluttered mess of a sub-forum which people just won't look at.

A new products section will be expected to be busy with a lot of news all the time, it's natural for a lot of noise there. Everyone will get good visibility and we will also keep our effects and instruments forums clean.

It's not ideal, but it's better than it is now imo.
