I have owned Zebra for about a year, then got Dark Zebra about 3 weeks ago. There are a lot of very good patches, though I re-saved most of them at maximum volume (some are still very quiet though). My biggest complaint is this: I have a patch (modified a factory preset called "Chug3 - large") that is used in 2 sections of a song. Pretty much every time I first open the song in Cubase LE4 (with Mac OSX 10.6.eight), the sound is very quiet, and sounds like the cutoff is set so the sound is very dull (I have not verified what changes are taking place). So, I change the preset to the factory preset "Chug3 - large", then back to the modified preset "Chug3 - large-CS", play a few notes, then Cubase (sequencer) will later play it back sounding correct. This has happened before with some of my Arturia soft synths, but first time it's happened with a u-he product for me (regular Zebra & trial version of Diva don't have this problem). Sometimes after doing my "fix", the modified preset plays it back OK on the first section, and then on the second section it is very quiet & dull sounding. Any fixes for this bug? I'm not using Zebra automation on this patch.
EDIT: I would later learn from Howard that using the joystick or modwheel on the keyboard can make a huge difference in sound & volume for some patches that are initially very quiet.

pdxindy,
You could be correct. I shut off all Cubase automation (I was only using it for Cubase track volume) and the problem went away. I have yet to discover if any Zebra settings are changing by themselves (then I'd do a MidiUnLearn on that virtual knob per the manual). Thank you! Any further comments are welcome.

You can look at the text file where the midi learn assignments are stored... on OSX it is user/library/application support/u-he and the file has zebra2.midiassign.txt... I think that is the file... been a while since I looked...

pdxindy & Fritze,
Thank you for replying! I went to Macintosh HD//library/application support/u-he/Zebra2, and I couldn't find what you are describing. Within the Zebra2 folder, I have a choice of Images, Modules, and Scripts (folders). Looked in every one, didn't see it. Tried the Mac Search function, which is useless half the time for me; didn't find it. Can anyone tell me exactly how to get there?

User(user account name)/Library/Application Support/u-he
or (same thing)
MacHD/Users/user account name/Library/Application Support/u-he

pdxindy,
Thank you for your patience! OK, I found com.u-he.Zebra2.midiassign.txt. I clicked on it, and all it says is this: // Global MidiCC Map. That's it. Is that supposed to tell me something that can help me? Help please.

pdxindy,
OK, I tried again & found 1=ENV1:Dec //Env1:Decay. I'll check that out in a few minutes. Thank you!

com.u-he.ZebraHZ.midiassign.txt
leave the - // Global MidiCC Map - but delete any midi learn assignments and save (keep a copy of any assignments if you want to reinstate them later)... then try your project again

pdxindy,
Thank you for your patience once again! I saw the com.u-he.Zebra2.midiassign.txt. , but the com.u-he.ZebraHZ.midiassign.txt doesn't seem to be there. I do see the com.u-he.ZebraHZ.UIprefs.txt, that's the one closest to what you describe.

What version are you using? I believe ZebraHZ may have been using the Zebra preferences until recently and the latest beta ZebraHZ is now fully separate. So I guess in your case the Zebra2 version is the one you want...

pdxindy,
Rev. 903. I did a Midi Unlearn on all the Env 1 virtual knobs, still have the same problem if automation is not all turned off.

Did you confirm that after doing midi unlearn that the assignments are gone from the midiassign.txt file? I would check the file again, and if there is anything besides "// Global MidiCC Map", then delete it in the file and save the txt file and save the project and quit and re-open the project.
If turning off automation solves the problem, then somewhere there is some automation causing it.

pdxindy,
I appreciate your persistence, and have tried what you suggested (to my knowledge): it seems to only show "// Global Midi CC Map", but I still have the same problem. For the time being I will turn off all automation for that track, not a big deal at this particular time. Thank you again.
