The intent of the thread was to spread some love for ElectraX.

Then you gave the wrong title. You asked why more people aren't raving about it... This invites the people who are not raving about it to explain why. If you want an ElectraX love thread, call it that. :)

In my case, I liked ElectraX. It has a diverse set of synth tools. All around very capable. Then Synthmaster came along and it is a similar all around capable synth that I think is significantly better than ElectraX. Since getting Synthmaster, the thought of purchasing ElectraX fell by the wayside.

I'm happy to hear the good and bad people have to say about ElectraX.

Thant quote in context was really me saying "Instead of some war we could focus on ElectraX ... " more than anything else :)

Imo, the best sounding Tone2 synth is Saurus. I demoed it alonside with ElectraX and found that they have some sort of similar "sonic fingerprint" but Saurus has far more weight and presence. ElectraX sounds for me sorta muddy and fluffy in comparison.

That's not to say ElectraX sounds bad. Just, where they overlap with Saurus the latter sounds better. I understand however that ElectraX does many things Saurus can't. Probably when I have spare money for a synth i'll demo it more thoroughly.

I'm pretty sure you are allergic to the psycho acoustic processing thing. Turn it off, on every single preset you see and you should be fine. Also note that the filters can be overdriven so if that is not your cup of tea, just reduce the volume of the oscillators going into the filters.

Other than that.. it's possible you just don't like the sound of it. It's definitely distinct.

sure you know that there's finally a x64 beta out but anyway, you can increase the working memory of FL Studio x86 to 3GB or even (if you run Win7 x64 OS) 4GB!

here's the instructions, its very simple:

Code: Select all

There is an 'FL (extended memory).exe' file in the FL Studio installation directory. Using this to start FL Studio after making the following changes to your Windows operating system will give FL Studio access to 3 GB or 4 GB (up from 2 GB) depending on your OS:

        Disable the 3 GB switch:
            1. From Windows Start browse to Programs > Accessories and Right-click the Command Prompt file. Click 'Run as Administrator'.
            2. In the Command prompt window, enter bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa and press enter on your keyboard. Allow the change to be made when security windows appear.
            3. Restart the computer.
            4. Remember to use the original FL Studio executable '..\Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio\FL.exe' in future.
best regards
Hmm, i can't have access to that program. I'm on Windows XP Home. Is there any other way to get that BCDEDIT page?
Maybe editing the registry file?

Have a nice day :)

Apart from being scowled at when I've rather helpfully tried to isolate and report bugs, I've never had a problem with Tone2 software and I think they're almost all brilliant and quite inovative. My main interest in ElectraX is the experimental wavetables. "Bitnoise" wavetable is wicked for TIA-chip-style grinding noises :D

There is something of a glossy sheen sometimes, which can be reduced by turning off the "enhancers", but it actually melds quite well with the sound palette that I like to work with, falling inbetween the smooth analog of Diva and other emulations, and the lo-fi chippy stuff and digital wavetable manglers.

All right, here's an ElectraX patch I made last night. Download, tweak, share.

Night Trance
http://cl.ly/2L362T292m0q

It's a plucky mellow lead with some movement in the second layer, that opens up with filter cutoff on layer one.

On the Mac, user patches are saved in:

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/ElectraX_sounds/User

ElectraX may be my favorite layout of a synth that I've come across. It's so quick to make so many different experimental cross-mod, fm, wavetable and noisy types sounds that sound genuinely cool. And not bad for bread and butter either. All the controls are layed out perfectly. As soon as I tried to use I knew excaltly where everything was and what everything did (except for some of the more unique modulations).

However I had it once and every problem I reported was met with anything from defensiveness or blaming the DAW to insults and insinuations that I wasn't pro enough to understand how to use it or some garbage. Same kind of thing happened with Galdiator. All of the issues were since fixed but I just can't support that developer, despite the fact that the company has good support folks.

Sometimes developers aren't super with people. Heck lots of people aren't super with people :)

That being said, bad customer service can really hold a company back. There are quite a few developers here on KVR that prove the opposite is true too. Developing a great relationship with customers can really pay off.

Sounds like Tone2 may have recognized this? I hope this has changed for the better, especially considering how good their products are.

Hope they have but they hadn't when they left KvR - it was a source of at least some of the bad feeling you still see here. Customers don't like being treated like trolls (or even called trolls as in my case). EITA is not the only person to have experienced this.

ahh.. thats bad, i think it works as said with win7 and vista x86 only.

@Sequent: thanks again for your kind words and for posting the links ;)

@fluffy: Concerning the watermark. There is no such a thing as "audio watermark"; this would cause a lot of artifacts as soon as the phase relationship of the sound is changed, which is something that happens all the time whe you play/tweak a sound with a synthesizer or when you EQ a sound, or when you master your songs etc. The watermark is in the files and it's a proper way to prevent illegal distributions of the software.

@All: ElectraX is fantastic :D A lot of options, modulation options, fantastic effects, a lot of oscillators types, and all multiplied by 4 :D
I think also is very intuitive and easy to operate. One of my favourite instruments ever!

Chalk me up as another one who's spoilt by the quality of cheap/free stuff today, the asking price is simply too much for me. I'll be interested if it ever hits below 100€.
