The only thing that concerns me is pricing... they are still being quiet on price.. they already know what is going to be included in the product at version 1 (all on their homepage in screenshots), so why not release the price?
I thought they announced it at $399 a long time ago. No?

dv247 posted right after their announcement a price of 380€ IIRC, but it is believed that it is just speculation of their part, as it is quite usual to big stores to put products with prices high above what they believe it will be so they can have hassle free pre-orders. You see the same thing with game consoles.

That would be the exact answer :tu:
...and maybe you have the inside track on this and if so I should take it as that...

However, is it possible that their road map is to make two tiers for BWS? Like Ableton did with Standard and Suite? Where a BWS Pro will allow you to edit/create devices in their native modular environment thus not needing a day 1 release?

They always say that there will be only one Bitwig.

Nope, one size fits all ;-) There are currently no other plans besides maybe the typical stripped down version to be bundled for free with hardware products, like midi controllers and audio interfaces.

And: Exactly, the network stuff and the modular system had to be coded right into the framework and the core from the beginning in order to set the base for the future and to develop the factory devices. Both has been planned for a later version from day one, as you can see in the very initial announcement.

Ah, and btw: the beta phase is really only for finding bugs and is not intended to be a demo or a marketing instrument to get people in, like maybe Google does. We will have a free demo of 1.0 for this...

Refreshing lack of cats here, it even made me post something! 8)

Cats are easily defeated by information, you know. :P

Yowsers! Thats just under 500 USD!!! Let's hope there is A LOT of padding in that estimated price. As in.. at least 60% less..

That is just especulations, because that is what many tech shops do (and sometimes the price is a lot lower !) but tbh I dont think it is usual in the music stores, so they may had some reason to put that price at that time... Anyway the euro prices almost certainly have VAT, so you probably can take at least 19% for the $ version  (the lowest in the eurozone I think)

Anyway it would be the only DAW with a expensive only version on the market, all other DAWs on that price range have lite/limited editions.

Just do was I do, think you will never have it and be suprised if what ever you can save for it add up to its price :hihi: ...

Thanks for the info.
Take as much time as you need, quality comes first (and money saving time too) and different developing workflows/methods must be respected too, what works very well for Reaper devs is great for them but may be very bad for others. Personally it is quite interesting to see such a detailed plan for developing a product and, from the little we have seen, for doing such a relatively complete and fast workflow based DAW for a v1 launch. In some ways it looks like a "open" Reason, everything you need in the box with its own identity, but that you dont get limited to propellerheads stuff, specially by supporting open formats and tech

A few questions if I can (keeping the thread cats free)...

The copy protection model, is C/R but will it limit the number of installs till I call someone or will be more like Steam :?: (I find Steam to be quite nice as last time I build my PC I had many problems with the windows partition and in a few days/weeks I probably installed Steam and games about 10 times without any hassle)

Will the upgrade model be more of big and with much time in between v1 to v2 upgrades, akin to Ableton or Cubase, or smaller and constant updates like Reaper :?:

Just in case anyone's keeping score, I actually love to say I told you so. Believe it or not, even when you're right as often as I am, it never gets old.

Oh it is not a matter of affording it.. I guess that is the general thought when someone mentions price being too high.. but it would be inaccurate..

I simply refuse to spend more than 200 USD for any host... Especially when I already have 3. :hihi:
