Hi,

I'm more of a traditional musician type (new to synth stuff) and I wonder whether you can make a Dreamy, warm & smooth synth sound in Mulab like you can hear in the first 50 seconds in this track:


If not, I'm not gonna try more you see :)

What about the presets in the Factory -> Instruments -> Pads folder? You didn't find anything useful there? Note that you can also layer sounds!

I can't access your video (damn german GEMA), but sure Mulab can do things you want. Have you checked the instruments/pads from the factory lib already?

Well I wouldn't go as far as saying there's nothing useful. I did mess around with the factory pads,I think I liked Dark And Wide. But I couldn't quite get what I want but I guess it's my inexperienced then. So you guys say something like the video is possible then? If so that's good to know.

I am in a similar situation, most of the Mulab presets don't really appeal to me, either. Too loud, too aggressive, too modern, too electronic... They are made mainly for a younger audience I suppose.

I like the subtle background synth in your video, from 40 secs on one can hear it better.

For a synth beginner it might be difficult to program evolving soundscapes in a modular synth like Mulab. Maybe synths like HG Fortune's Dreammachine might get you there faster, although they look a bit intimidating at first 8)

sounds layered. band pass filtered sound with slow envelope filter + filtered white noise i reckon. definitely should be possible to get similar. main thing to get this character of sound shaping is the envelope settings in both amplifier and filters.

Indeed, that's possible without any problem...
The first 5 seconds of the video is nothing but a Supersaw Pad lowpass filtered for the body of the pad with then layered with a more noisy bandpass sweeping filter inbetween 250 to 1000 Hz... no problem for MUX 8)

I only watched Intro To Synthesis part 1 (Dean Friedman) a few times and read a wiki page, but I do have to work more on my synthesis I see. Thanks for the confirmation.

i had a go at recreating it and, in truth, it isn't the same. the character of the sound is impossible to recreate. i have a sample cd by emagic called 'xtreme digital' and that has dx5 and other fm sounds that do sound very similar to the pad sound on the video you posted. i think they integrated the samples into the apple logic stuff so if you have a mac, have look at sample library and see if there's anything close sound wise. the cd isn't on sale anymore so if copyright isn't an issue (any thoughts anyone?)would be happy to send you the sample set that is similar.

Thanks. It doesn't have to be exact, but I just the kind of warmth and smoothness I hear in these type of sounds which I, as noobie,couldn't achieve. You see,I want to play guitar over such a sound. Either acoustic, or clean guitar. The techno type sound is just not what I'm looking for.

I tried to and of course it is hard to recreate something similar sounding especially with Pads...

Problem 1: If you don't have a single note sound, it's more difficult to nail it by ear...

Problem 2: There are gazillion ways to "smoothen" a pad, that it would take some time and intensive research which way sound similar

But finally: The sound quality of MUX is outstanding and absolutely on par with any of the top synths out there... if you know how, you can get the same result...
