Hi Urs, well in my little experience I seriously think the 303 will make the Diva roar like a real dinosaur.

Blasphemous ? Hmmm... Then maybe it's a dinosaur but not analogue... SID ?

No I didn't. And I won't :)
Hmm. Ok, a completely unrelated question, then. If I decide to visit the Musikmesse, should I bring you guys some loaner TB-303s? ;)
Please do!

Hall 5.1 C58 - right behind Steinberg.

In that case, it should of course rather be in Zebra2. ;)

To be frank, I am already very pleased with ABL2 as an emulation of the TB-303, with Phoscyon as another good enough runner-up. So I wonder what the inclusion of a TB-303 filter would in fact bring in terms of new possibilities, especially when the TB-303 oscillators would not be included - I don't even know how much they *exactly* contribute to its overall sound, while the accent and slide are of course quite essential to emulate it. As much as I love the 303 filter sound, I also think it is perhaps a bit less (rather than more) interesting when combined with other modules, or when played in polyphonic mode. So while I'm also hoping for some interesting results, and definitely think it is worth a try, I won't be very disappointed when it turns out to be less interesting than hoped.

At Location 5.1 C58, it seems. [EDIT: ninja'd by Urs  ]. Fwiw: for Friday afternoon you can get extra cheap tickets: only €10 for 14:00-18:00 (instead of €29). Since I won't be making it before lunch anyway, that sounds just about perfect for me (although 4 hours may be a bit short to check out the entire show)... saving me €19 to spend on Frankfurter wurst instead! (They make for excellent analog noise generators, btw - they just have to warm for a while. ;) )

Well, the sequencer/arpeggiator combo in Diva's next rev is mindboggling. People will *want* to do TB-ish stuff with it. It won't matter if it's a close emulation, because it's just really such a great fun to perform with.

Hence I suppose the next big feature request is a filter that adds more acidity. I suspect the DCO will be well suited as a source, as will be the new oscillator model we're adding.

Teaser: The arpeggiator can "reprogram" the sequencer on the fly. The sequencer then repeats the arp pattern, at its own pace. If the arp pattern is 4 steps quarters and the sequencer is e.g. 7 steps sixteenth, then all sorts of interleaved patterns emerge. It's a live Koyaanisquatsi generator :D

OK, after another successful patching session with DIVA I read that!
:-o
now that we know, it better come out quick!

How about modeling the XMF mode from Zebra for more acidity? kidd..
Maybe you'll release The Dark Diva with some Zebra modules instead... :hihi:

More ACID! This is an official plus 1 from me. That would be stellar :)

I'm all in favor of more acid. :)

The 303 oscillator looks quite different than the DCO, though. Iirc, it uses a weird technique for inverting the oscillator waveshape halfway every cycle or something similar, to make the the 'square' waveform out of the 'sawtooth' one. The saw doesn't look much like a saw, nor does the square look much like a square. :)

For your convenience, a few screenshots comparing the output of Diva's DCO's with ABL2 (as noted, a decent emulation, and definitely much easier to digitally capture without any noise) with resonance at zero, filter cut-off and envelope modulation at maximum settings, captured immediately after beginning of note - i.e. an almost raw, unfiltered waveform):

First the sawtooth (ABL2 in upper oscilloscope display, Diva in lower):

Then the square wave:

Clearly, they're quite different.

Also note that the envelope modulation on the TB-303 is much different from the current models: it is kind of 'bipolar': it first goes positive, then falls *below* the cut-off point: with env. mod. at maximum, the envelope ends at a much lower point than at the minimum setting.

Try a highpass filter inbetween. The TB waveform is simply highpassed.
