Ok what am I missing?

Midi Input Device is correctly selected
Midi Input Device is registering on the input device meters
"enable end-to-end" is enabled for the MIDI input device
e-to-e over the CPU display is enabled
"destination output for this track" is set to correct MIDI hardware output

I play and hear nothing.
I record and hear nothing.
I play the recorded clip and it plays fine.

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Deleted all program changes and the initial program change for the track destination (set to none) and now I hear during recording and playback, but still not until recording starts. Very odd. Confused.

Post

Very odd - really not sure what's going on. You could send me your edit to try?

Post

I can send an edit, but

Same problem for any edit I create.
Same behavior noted on multiple hardware synths.
Problem does not affect VST synths.
If play is activated end-to-end works.
If stop is pressed end-to-end doesn't seem to function.

I keep wondering if I am doing something wrong, but I never noticed this on T3.

Post

More digging.

MIDI interface LEDs confirm data is not sent till play is engaged.
I was unable to duplicate the problem in T3.

Oh and Jules this reminds me similar issue that has existed at least since T3.

I don't believe that MIDI clock is sent until play is engaged. Of course MIDI timecode can't be sent unless the song is playing, but without MIDI clock being sent, those synth patches which are set to sync to it become unplayable. There is no way to noodle around trying to play anything until the song is started. It seems to me that MIDI clock could continue being sent even when the song is stopped by using the tempo set for the current cursor position.

Does it make any difference if you toggle "Send all midi controller off message when play stops" under settings?
"my gosh it's a friggin hardware"

Post

That didn't seem to have any effect.

I gave 4.1.13 a go today. Same problem exist. I noticed that it doesn't matter if e-to-e is on or off, the behavior is the same. Something is keeping MIDI from passing through from input to output anytime Tracktion is not actively in playback or recording mode. As soon as play is engaged, MIDI starts passing through.

Just to make it clear this is not an audio issue. This occurs when you are working with a MIDI input with end-to-end enabled to a MIDI output track destination.

It makes it quite difficult to work with hardware sound modules. :help:

Still exist in 4.1.14, but I noticed something new. Tracktion seems to be holding onto the notes until play is pressed, then clearing the cache.

Video shows the problem.

Maybe stupid, but i notice you have not set the markers. In and Out marker are at the beginning. So when you set the Out-marker to somewhere along the timeline, does it make a difference?

Ah, if only everyone sent me nice clear screen-captures for their bug reports!

Ok, gotcha - will sort this out for the next release!

Thanks you Jules. Because of this problem, I had no way to demonstrate the issue with MIDI clock. But would ask that you consider having MIDI clock sent out at all times so that MIDI clock synced synths don't lock up when Tracktion is not in active play or record mode. Thanks again.

I'd have to agree, I'd like to rewire renoise into T sometime and it would need to work together with T being master cursor position... :)
