just some more feedback
just tested some more
iPad2, iOS 5.11, Yamaha xm1 midi io, kawai mp10
works fine with absolutely playable latency:
magellan, animoog, xsynth, korg ims20
sunrizer works but for my taste it has a midi problem with velocity influencing the filter cutoff
randomly cut off notes
alchemy
serious problems
ppg wavegenerator (plays some notes with no problems but then stops completely, after changing preset it shows the same behaviour -plays a couple of notes, the stops - have polyphony at 4 and quality at max
did not first end all apps or something
hope that helps
best

I'm using an iPad 2 with the latest available iOS. I've never had any latency issues using the CCK and a MIDI keyboard, unless there are multiple apps running and one or more are using background audio.
Animoog works just fine without background audio running. Ditto with Sunrizer.
I've done many recordings in Alchemy Mobile, Garageband, Nlog Pro and Grain Science, all without a hitch.
Lastly, I use NanoStudio for the vast majority of my recording, and it has faithfully represented my playing (often with some crazy fast keyboard runs) without a hitch. Of course, NanoStudio doesn't support background audio is very solidly programmed, which may explain the ability to have next to zero latency while recording in the app.

Ok i did a reset.
Animoog and Garage Band are fine (no noticeable latency).
Korg ims20 is not great , it feels like there is around 30-50 ms latency.
Fine for playing pad but thats it.
Ppg WaveGenerator there is less latency than iMs20 but still not great.
Anyone else with the Ipad 3 and the latest IOS version with latency problems ?
I will try to test another midi device when i have the time.
And i wil do a factory reset if nothing helps.
I've been playing keyboard for 15 years, maybe i am just being picky...
Edit :
Animoog has some latency issue before resetting the device. Weird.

This really is weird. If you're still having problems it might just be the iOS device or the connector. Maybe you should try it out on another iOS device or go back to the Apple store and talk to them about it. These problems are really weird.
Here is a video where you can see its working fine:

We also use iRig hooked into sampletank on ipad 2 without problems. Sounds good.ObiK wrote:You should try to close any apps running in the background to save all processing power for the app you're using. I'm using iRig MIDI with no issues with latency over here.

Have you checked any possible app buffer settings, either in app preferences or system preferences.?

Update :
Still having latency issue with Ims20 and waveGenerator.
I upgraded to Ios 6 , did a reset of the device etc. Maybe i should try an other camera connection kit. I've tried with other midi devices , same thing .. i don't understand.
BTW I am not the only one having latency issue with Ims20.

All the other apps i own are fine , Animoog, Garage Band, Igrand Piano from Ik etc.
Wavegenerator is not that bad but when sequenced from a midi sequencer the timing is really bad so unfortunately its useless for me unless i am playing pads.
Anyway i am not buying any more music apps for Ipad until i can find a way to make sure it is usable on my Device . (Ipad 3 with latest ios)

I agree. With my iPad 3, I've got no issues with any application in terms of latency, and that includes Polysix which is also by Korg. Sampletank, Animoog, GB, all good.ObiK wrote:If there is only latency issues with 1 app and not others, even after closing anything running in the background, I'd contact the app creators.
It's a pretty amazing device with just a controller and the iPad.

Perhaps it's your MIDI device or keyboard. Heck, check to make sure your USB cable is not faulty.

In live gigs I play my iPad 3 from the lower keyboard of a Crumar Mojo organ through a simple midi to usb interface and CCK.
I use iLectric Piano, iGrand Piano and bs-16i, all loaded without background audio: no noticeable latency.

I'm using iMS20 with no noticeable latency hooked by cck to MS20iC controller.
Also have hooked up by audio interface on my Venom Synth with no noticeable latency.
