i knew it.
sample rate mis match is all. you could also have set mulab's output to 48khz to match your soundcard. do that in the audio setup panel.
read this for an explanation.

As weird as this is going to sound Mulab was always setup for 48KHz that was the reason I setup the Audio 6 for 48KHz. I am now running Mulab at 48KHz (no change from original setup) and the Audio 6 at 44.1KHz. The sound is perfect no drop-outs, in either playback or mixdown. As soon as I change the Audio 6 to 48KHz to match Mulab I get drop-outs, back to snap, crackle and pop.
Weird?

Yesterday I mixed down a pattern in 32-bit resolution and it was completely distorted... Then I changed the sample rate in Mulab from 48 to 96, much better, but still with occasional distortion and noise. Certain combination seem to work, others not.
Now I use a bit depth of 24 bit (32 never seems to work flawlessly) on the ASIO driver, a Mulab sampling rate of 96 (can't change it to 48 for some reason...) and mixing down in both 16 and 32 bit seems fine
