It's my first experiment with 12-tone rows, hence the title :-)

I hope you enjoy! :D
Thanks for doing that Mike.
Love the track, and I think you're creating a whole new genre with all those tracks you've done.
I'd like to say that jokingly...but it's true.

Brilliant! Despite 12-tone serialism being the most ridiculous musical imposition ever. IMHO!
LOL! Yeah, 12-tone serialism was taken to the extreme. Used to be, if you didn't do 12-tone you'd be laughed out of town. Boulez said something to the effect, any composer that doesn't do 12-tone shouldn't be taken seriously.

First of all, congratulations, Mike, really great track..! :-)

to the off-topic-topic: there's a huge difference between 12tone and serialism...
Some 12tone music sounds very familiar nowadays, e. g. some pieces of Alban Berg - Lulu and the Violin Concert are amazing masterpieces; or music by Frank Martin and others.
Also Webern has reached a fantastic personal style with this technique.
But: it's only a technique, like the writing of a fugue.

Serialism, however, is quite different. It allows the creation of some nice textures which seem to be stochastic, but in a very elaborate way
but the whole concept behind applying series of (nonrepeating i. e. only once per a succession apearing) values to rhythm and dynamic is clearly a child of the zeitgeist of the 1940 and 1950-ies.
One can understand it as a reaction to the WW2 and the abuse of the emotional aspect of music when manipulating people into a war.
With Boulez and his statements again it's simple: i think, his thoughts and concepts are great as long as he applied them to himself: if he sees no sense in tonality anymore, he don't has to use it...
Problems start, where those statements become dogmas, since that's cultural fascism. (interesting enough from a psychological p.o.v., if you reconsider that those dogmas were a direct reaction to political fascism...)

Anyhow, i think that writing some pieces in the 12tone technique is of great use for every composer, same as writing some canons, fugues and sonatas. It can give really interesting results.
To be honest, i often miss some aspects that 12tone music has specially in modern filmscores...there's a tendency towards the dogmatic non-use of everything that exceeds the harmonic language of pop music.

Hey thanks for the comment, Arrested Developer. Also, thanks for those good points about 12 tone music.

I decided to give 12 tone a try because lately I've found myself wanting to come up with notes, without caring about what the notes actually are, i.e. I wanted the "melodies" (if you can call them that) to sound somewhat random. Using tone rows helps me get that random distribution of notes I'm looking for.

Somehow missed this.
That's really great. He is a great musician imo, as well.
Lots of good sounds for the funk and jazz musicians, in this set.
