Import Duty has been around forever......It's a tax imposed and collected by a country's government, has nothing to do with the supplier.

2 second on google to find out what your responsibilities are:

Yes, correct, anybody here could confirm.
stixman said he had lots of previous purchases and experience buying from the US...
Well, it doens't seem so (or he just bought downloadable stuff or small parcels)

I have bought (and sold) lots of stuff from ebay and online retailers.
If it's a physical good, you always get charged for taxes, import duties and custom fees. Usually it's about 20% of the declared value.

You can be lucky, usually if it's something very small and of small value, (like a single CD), that travels with "normal" envelopes (written paper) then it might not be picked up by customs and taxes not applied.

It works sometimes...When the EURO/US$ exchange ratio was higher, ordering form the US was much cheaper than from an EU retailer, and if custom was someway "skipped" you could save some good money. Not always worth it now....

I had a long conversation with FedEx and he explained a lot of things to me! This is not an isolated case! Many UK citizens are NOT being told the real costs! As I have Stated I have paid FedEx their demand! If JRRSHOP had 3 weeks earlier re-paid me the Princely sum of $16 me as a so called valued customer would have been content enough but only after approx 10 emails back and forth did I finally receive partial refund! Which is why my experience has been so disappointing! The money is not what I am unhappy about! It is the PRINCIPAL of the matter! If I had been aware at the point of paying THE REAL COST I would have not completed this Treansaction! Now Mark you seem we'll versed in import/export regulations but up until my dealings with JRRSHOP mine was minimal! PS UNCLE I gave you the FedEx contact to work out the problem of your paperwork which you sent to UK customs! If I wanted to pay A FURTHER $94 to have correct invoice I would have done without you! Why are they sending me a notice that I will be charged another £50 for something I never asked for! This error came from your side not mine! excerpt i have just received from fedEx "The team will forward the dispute to HMRC, please be aware that they charge £50.00 + VAT admin fee to resubmit an entry and the entry can take 10-12 weeks to be resolved." UK buyers beware!

There was no warning I would be charged more than the shipping and taxes I saw on your checkout! I had to suggest to you after some weeks that I be compensated for the higher invoice amount being demanded from FedEx !
If JRR have refunded you anything then this seems to me to be nothing but testament to their desire to make their clients happy. What you've been charged is standard customs duty and is technically enforceable for any imports of software/hardware. Similarly, it is within the rights of the courier to charge you an admin fee and indeed most if not all will do this where customs charges are levied.
I explained to you I have never been asked to pay extra charges before despite buying overseas for many years!
In that case you've either been extremely lucky, or have only made low-value or European purchases in the past. In my experience HMRC will tend to apply import duty to purchases from outside Europe unless the value of the goods are lower than around £30. Technically duty is still applicable for cheaper goods as well, but isn't usually enforced due to lack of cost/benefit.
Had you settled this some weeks ago I would have been reassured
It's not their responsibility to settle anything. It sounds like they've gone beyond the call of duty to make things good.
I suggest you make it absolutely clear the extra cost of buying from JRRSHOP if they are from UK! I looked at your checkout site and I could not find any mention of the extra costs to be added to final cost of buying from you which suggests to that this cost was HIDDEN!
Under Customer Service/Shipping & Delivery on their site:
'International customers are responsible for all import duties, taxes, and brokerage fees. We do not include these fees in our total costs'

Seems pretty clear.

It's £32 because I refunded £11 to you. These duties are completely external to us, we have nothing to do with them. (. FedEx rep told me the company selling chooses whether to pay themselves or customer receiving package!
There was no warning I would be charged more than the shipping and taxes I saw on your checkout!
There were no taxes on our checkout. ( It clearly says on the posting options SHIPPING and TAXES!
I had to suggest to you after some weeks that I be compensated for the higher invoice amount being demanded from FedEx !
These duties have nothing to do with us. Neither Fed Ex nor the country of England reported to us that they were billing you. (Your name is one the invoice which states $58 more than I paid for item so incurring higher rate of import duty!
I explained to you I have never been asked to pay extra charges before despite buying overseas for many years!
You only ever purchased download licenses from us in the past. Download licenses are not taxed. ( I never said these purchases were from JRRSHOP!
Had you settled this some weeks ago I would have been reassured but this dragged on too long!
We have been working with Fed Ex on your behalf this entire time.
I never asked you work on my behalf! (The increased amount payable was an error on your side as you have owned up to yourself and is the reason you refunded me a partial refund! As you must have gathered I can fight my own battles!

I already said Ebay makes it blindingly clear of any additional charges! Some companies will pay duties themselves.

This qualifies for a free upgrade to Reason 7!
Here too

This one is almost too good to be true:

As Reason Essentials costs €100, and this upgrade To Reason costs €97, means one can get full Reason 7 for under €200? :o

Can that be correct?
