So each layer has its own fx, distortion, lo-fi, ensemble, phaser, eq...
If I go into the fx tab, there is a routing matrix for each layer, and you can right click to give a menu of fx options.
However when I change one, say I try to change lo-fi for an echo, nothing changes and the lo-fi is still present and working.
The GUI doesn't change on the synth page, but does for the fx tab..
I also checked lots of presets, and these too seem to all use the standard fx chain...
Is there any way to change these independently of each other, or is the drop down menu not supposed to be there?
Changing layer effects?

Actually when you right click the insert effect name (under FX tab) you can change the routing. But from what I understand of what you wrote this doesnt work for you? What's your OS and DAW?
By the way we have a visual "bug" on the Layer tab. Even if you change the ordering of layer effects the GUI there doesnt reflect that. We need to fix that asap.

Logic 9 on Os 10.8
But yes, that is what I was referring to, the GUI doesn't reflect changes you make.
The effect itself does change. I must have been on the wrong layer, again!
All good, just checking
I'm guessing you are busy with messe as well...
