Forth coming version 0.7JamOrigin wrote:Its based upon the same engine as the forthcomming version 0.7 of the VST/AU version, which will have many improvements over 0.6.
The interface of the App version is still kept very simple though.
Does this mean a new UI for the VST\AU?
Peace

MIDI Guitar 2.0 for iOS is now the App Store. As mentioned it now use the same engine as the VST.

hey I bought this back in December, but I just got all my gear back after 6 months, so I just tried Midi Guitar for the first time.
First of all, despite the hype and praise I have read so far (during all these months), I have to say that I was actually surprised by how well the pitch detection responded. Wow, low latency indeed, it really makes the difference durng play - I can just be free to concentrate on what to play next, rather than concerning myself with any annoying lag in response. I can pull off faux "sweep picking" using a legato style lead preset just by fretting a chord shape and strumming slowly.
My routing was through an Axe-FX ultra (bypass) to a Focusrite saffire pro 14. I will try later with the ultra unbypassed, through a row of shunts.
The few issues I had were:
- standalone version - couldnt really get this set up properly (i am probably doing something wrong). The VST loaded in Reaper worked immediately.
- saving presets in Reaper - instrument type not saved. I think this was discussed elsewhere, so I'm going to dig into some of the previous pages of this thread.
- changing presets in reaper - on my first try to recover a saved preset, the programme crashed. I later discovered that the instruments weren't saved anyway, so I haven't yet looked to see if the crash is repeatable.
-I know pitch bend is still in experimental phase, but with pitch on (2 steps)I do sometimes hear a wobbly note or two when I am not conciously vibrato-ing. It may be my poor playing technique though.
Cheers!

I'm not sure if you realize how much of a weird hack that would be to implement. While it's possible (barely), it's not the way .tun files are meant to be used. (They're meant to be loaded by instruments, not controllers.)memyselfandus wrote:any word on the scala tun file integration? lots of people are excited for this feature.
I can't speak for JamOrigin but I hope they have needed features like multichannel output and a working pitchbend much higher on their list than a weird feature like that that almost nobody will be able to use.

Not being developers, they may not understand what an ugly hack it will be to implement on a controller rather than on an instrument where the feature is intended to be implemented, and may be disappointed to find out how few instruments it will work with. As you need to coax the instrument to play the intended pitch by sending pitch bend messages, then it can only work for monophonic parts, OR on synths capable of 6 channel guitar input (or 6 instances of a monosynth). And this will then interfere with the pitchbend as needed for tracking string bends (which is what the 6 channel MIDI guitar format is for).memyselfandus wrote:there are people here who can't wait for the scala feature

MIDI controllers don't know what pitch they're sending, they just send arbitrary note values from 0 to 127. It's up to the instrument to decide what pitch those notes should be at. Instruments load .tun files, not controllers. (Find me one example of a controller, anywhere, any kind, that does. Just one!)
I know JamOrigin said they'd look into this but my gut feeling is they're just trying to be positive and when they actually look at what's involved they'll be forced to abandon the idea. It's just not practical, and to implement it you have to throw away the intended functionality of the controller (i.e. being able to accurately track bends).
Sorry if you don't like this but it isn't opinion. It's fact.
