Hi all,
i'm very new here.
I just wanted to ask around about this situation.
I've got a band nearly ready to start performing live.
It consists of a singer, and myself on synth.
I'm trying to configure a template in Ableton and have sort of
got an idea.

Originally i thought i'd have to open and close each live set which
would be nice, but may take too long inbetween songs.
So; much like DJing with Ableton, i'd have the setlist worth of tracks all
sitting there in the Session View.
Well, not the whole track but just the parts that i want sequenced (such
as the midi tracks for drums on one track and the midi; sent to a Tetra, for bass on another, etc...).
I'd basically go down the list and hit Scene Lauch to play the midi parts,
I think?
Has anyone got an idea on how to do this properly?

What i can't work out though is:

1. how would i change drum kits or synth patches from song to song?

2. How could i affect the singer's voice with f/x from Ableton at the same
time?

I know there are plenty of people out there doing this, but i don't know anyone personally.

Hey bud, looks like your gonna need a controller like the APC40 or APC20. especially If you are planning on triggering midi clips that are sent out to external hardware.

My Q&A for your responses

1. I have no idea how to use Ableton to change patches in hardware, but I am sure there is a way. If not you could always just manually do it but it could be an issue. One thing you could do is take the time to record all of your outboard gear midi clips into live as audio clips. Then you can have your entire set list all loaded into one session. You can change tempos and timing per clip so triggering all the parts in your songs won't be an issue.

It is time consuming but it's worth it because it will be pretty seamless. Another reason recording the external gear into live vs sending midi to the gear in real time is that you will get miniscule latency issues with midi out. So having audio clips and internal plugins is a much better way to go performance wise. If you don't want to look like a computer DJ take the gear anyways and set it up for looks, or have a improv synth handy to play live.

2. Changing the singers voice and stuff live is no problem, you can use as your audio mixer and send all audio into live. Then set up audio tracks and apply whatever effects you want to the audio tracks and trigger them using clip automations. This can integrate into your set easy enough along side your song clips, to do the live automation on your audio check out my workaround I used here.

Hope this helps a bit.
