I got the "userxxx" email a few days ago.

what's weird is that I get email notifications saying "X is now following you!" but when I check my soundcloud page I don't have any new followers. Is this some cheap ploy people do to try to get you to look at their own page? Either that or it seems like a waste of effort to follow then promptly un-follow over a span of less than 24 hours.

They usually cancel those accounts within a couple of hours of them being misused.

They have this under control to the best of their ability - or that's what it looks like.

Last one to get deleted from my account had "blonde" in the username and was brunette in the picture

There's probably a server somewhere churning out thousands of these accounts. Find it and kill it with death!

Yep, there's deifnitely been a flurry of them lately. I think I've had more since I posted this than I had in the last two years, although that's only about 5 or so to be fair. They're deleted quickly, but they can't delete the sadness in my heart when I excitedly click my new follower only to find they're not real

I just quit following people I don't know. I don't care if people add me that I don't know and eventually they just delete me.

It would be nice if there was internet police that would go and hunt these perps down and fine them or something, but that would open up a whole new can of worms in terms of internet freedom.

I think the spammers have beaten SoundCloud's CAPTCHA so they can generate new user123456 accounts at will. The point of this is if you click on the link in the fake account's profile, the website will attempt to takeover your machine and turn it into a member of a botnet or something even more malicious.

SoundCloud needs to toughen their CAPTCHAs to prevent this.

A few days ago I banned a spammer who signed up at KVR and immediately posted that he was selling a method of circumventing captchas. Caught it about three minutes after he posted it.
