ACE - what a great synth.

OK so I bought Zebra and it is a truly wonderful synth - it's flexible and powerful and slowly I'm working my way through understanding how all the modules work together to form a cohesive instrument.
At the same time I also picked up ACE - and what a good move that was!
I've not had so much (intuitive plug and play) fun with a synth since my Yamaha CS40M in the 1980s - the big sounds coming from it are just startling, its alive and speaks to me just the way my analog hardware used to.
From what I read Diva is probably also going to be one I'd like - as a JP8 and Juno 106 owner some of it is very familiar.
But for now - ACE is flicking all the right switches.
Thanks for producing such a thoroughly enjoyable instrument to play.

From tinkerings with the demo, I must admit I agree.
And at that price, I'm going to have to grab it sooner or later. Next month, once bills are paid and disposable income is assessed!
Felt the same about Diva. The first time I tried it out, my computer groaned and squeeked and complained about the burden on it's back which had always put me off until I get a better computer. However the last time I tried it (month or two ago?..something like that) my computer seemed to be a lot happier, and could play more polyphony on more presets. Although I've never spent more than £100 on a single synth on what is effectively a hobby, if any are worth it it's this. I just can't see me not wanting to turn to it immediately after opening the host...So I think I'll have to get that too before the new computer spending!
I found that with ACE I had the most fun designing sounds and could spend hours just attaching and moving around those wires (which is fine by me...I usually spend more time on that than anything in my music), but with Diva I had the most fun actually playing it - bearing in mind that I'm a terrible kb player, there's something about it that just seems to add a little magic to your fingertips.

I found Zebra a bit bewildering at first, and haven't really delved into the demo of that. Keep meaning to have another look - especially since playing with Zebralette (which I love, can't believe it's free!), which I understand is just the osc from Zebra(?). It's incredibly flexible just on it's own.

As soon as you (and your CPU) can afford to start an affair with Diva, do so. You won't regret it, promise.jasonwilden wrote:[...] its alive and speaks to me just the way my analog hardware used to.

(And/or check out the ZebraHZ with the Diva filters).

Oh I'm ready to have a go! I mainly compose to picture and have a fairly beefy box for that reason - i7 980 6 core with 24GB RAM.Ch00rD wrote:As soon as you (and your CPU) can afford to start an affair with Diva, do so. You won't regret it, promise.![]()

Just a case of finding the funds!
I just love the fun that I'm having with ACE at the moment, it turns exactly what I think into sound and I keep finding new tricks to keep me entertained (have had to put a limiter on my main outputs though!! Can get a bit out of control)
Just nice to find a family of soft synths with something more than the digital fizz that I get from some of the others.
Cheers,
Jason.

Same here!
Bought it a couple of years ago but am only just getting into it now. It's a joy to use and I think I could happily get away with using it as my only synth.
For the type of music I make there's not a lot of sounds I can't access using ACE alone. I need to try Bazille!
Cheers

I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

Ah that's the genius that is Zebralette. Not only does it sound good for free, it helps you learn how to use a central part of Zebra without overwhelming you with all the complexity at once, since it is essentially one of Zebra's oscs (no filters). And you can even use the sounds you create as building blocks for Zebra patches when you get the full version.The_Hidden_Goose wrote:I found Zebra a bit bewildering at first, and haven't really delved into the demo of that. Just wait till your first date with Divajasonwilden wrote:I've not had so much (intuitive plug and play) fun with a synth since my Yamaha CS40M in the 1980s - the big sounds coming from it are just startling, its alive and speaks to me just the way my analog hardware used to.
I haven't owned any of the vintage synths that Diva is modeled after, but I did however, had the Alesis Andromeda A6 some years back. I must say, when I'm playing around with Diva, I feel like I'm sitting with a "real analog" synthesizer. Something I have never done with the shitloads of other softsynths out there. It's just freaking amazing!
